James Alvarez experienced a tragedy that one does not dare to imagine. The most dreadful day of his life came when he lost his 23-year-old wife, Yesenia Lisette Aguilar.

Her passing was one that is usually seen only in movies, but sadly, it happened right before Alvarez's eyes while they were walking on an Anaheim sidewalk.

THE TRAGIC LOSS

Then, eight months pregnant, Aguilar was hit by a Jeep with a woman under the influence behind the wheel. In a split second, she was taken away from her husband's grasp.

Unfortunately, Aguilar did not survive the accident, but their little miracle did. Through an emergency c-section, Adalyn Rose was born.

While grieving for his wife, Alvarez tried to be the best father to Adalyn. Undoubtedly, it was a painful and difficult task, but his daughter kept him strong.

CELEBRATING ONE YEAR

Adalyn recently turned one year old and, to celebrate, the doting dad recreated his wife's maternity shoot with his daughter. The photos taken by X & V Photography captured both the sadness in losing Aguilar and the happiness in creating life.

Among the snaps were poses of Alvarez holding his daughter by a tree and another in his arms. Adalyn also wore a light pink dress, similar to what her mother wore during the shoot. On his Instagram, Alvarez wrote:

"Adalyn, I know if your mommy was here, she would have been the happiest person alive. She would be so excited to celebrate your birthday. That's why I make sure to fulfill her wishes [...]."

FATHER OF THE YEAR

It has been an incredibly difficult journey for Alvarez, but a little support from his social media followers cheering him on helps get by.

He believes that his parenting style, although criticized by many, will help his kids find their true identities.

In the past year, he and his daughter moved into his Burbank childhood home so that Alvarez's mom could help watch over Adalyn.

Weekly, he goes back to Orange County, where he can visit his in-laws and his wife's grave. According to the single dad, Aguilar saved their child. As seen in her autopsy report, Aguilar's arms were bruised, suggesting that she covered and protected her belly.

Being a father is certainly not an easy job, especially when the world critiques how a child is raised. Sav Butler, a 20-year-old transgender dad, is among the many who want to raise their child well.

He believes that his parenting style, although criticized by many, will help his kids find their true identities. In a recent TikTok video, he explained why he chose to raise them genderless.
