"Never Too Young To Die" actor John Stamos has a last name that sounds almost American, but he was only a migrant whose family came to the country in pursuit of the American dream.

Although he has found fame and success as a prolific actor, Stamos never forgets his roots and those who made his career possible. He is one of those who revere his upbringing.

In an Instagram post, Stamos shed light on his background, revealing that he would have had a different last name if it had not been for the creativity of his grandfather when they arrived in the United States.

Stamos wrote that his ancestors, like millions worldwide, came to the US hoping for a better life and more opportunities for their children and wanting to contribute to the American dream.

The 58-year-old movie star explained that his grandfather, John Stamatopolous came to the US from Greece, and on his arrival, he shortened his name to Stamos.

This name change was to mark the newness of life and, hopefully, new things. All thanks to his creativity, the Stamos family name became a global name. He captioned the post:

“My grandfather, John Stamatopolous came here from Greece through Ellis Island... he shortened his name to Stamos, (a new name, for his new life, in the new land that was now his home).”

Growing up in the United States most certainly helped Stamos be who he is today. Living in Orange County helped the “Alice in the Wonderland” actor to dream all he wanted and imagine great things for himself.

Stamos has now lost both his parents and most certainly has their sacrifice and love to thank for the success he now enjoys.

A bulk of his childhood was spent creating lovely memories that he would cherish as an adult. Stamos grew up eight minutes from Knott’s Berry Farm and 20 minutes from Disneyland, where he often visited.

Stamos continued working at the family business on weekends, not realizing how popular he had become from his role on the show. Kids would often come to the restaurant to ask for autographs and pictures.

Those were the years Stamos would look back on with a smile. Unfortunately, the actor has lost both his parents and most certainly has their sacrifice and love to thank for the success he now enjoys.
