Florida Couple Unable to Conceive Emerge Winners of 'Win a Baby' Contest
After a long, arduous road, a couple entered a competition, winning the chance to go through IVF. Whether the process would work or not was a complete and terrifying gamble.
In 2017, Krista and Anthony Rivera entered a radio contest after realizing they couldn't conceive naturally. To do so, they had to submit a video. In this, the two opened up about their journey together and their desire to have children.
The clip played emotional music in the background with a montage of pictures of their journey together. They explained via overlay text that they began as friends but eventually started dating and got married.

Following graduation, they revealed, both began working in education, where they interact with children. However, they wanted kids of their own.
Sadly, the video stated, their journey towards conception was interrupted when Anthony was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Beyond just battling with this disease, the treatments for this husband cause infertility.
Miraculously, they won this 2017 "Win a Baby" sweepstakes on local Fort Meyers, Florida, station, B103.9. Ecstatic, they kept everyone updated about their IVF journey via Facebook.
Tragically, on August 25, 2018, they broke the sad news to their fellow social media users, revealing that the almost mother-to-be didn't give birth through the use of IVF. This was due to a miscarriage. Part of the status read:
"One day we will know the joy of parenthood. We don’t know how or when but we will not lose our faith. Please keep us in your prayers."
Individuals in the comment section showed compassion and sympathy towards the couple. Many of them encouraged the pair not to give up.
Yet, after this misfortune came a beautiful and fortunate turn of events; Krista revealed some fantastic news. The wife said:
"They were only supposed to do one transfer, but were kind enough to do a second."
Eventually, their baby boy Garrett was born in 2019. The little one came into the world just past 4:00 am at 8lbs and around 19in on August 22, 2019.
Unable to hold their excitement in, the duo took to Facebook to share the excellent news. Part of the post read:
"We certainly don’t know how to do anything the easy way, but we are still blessed beyond measure."
The new mom explained that the birth was not easy, with the newborn ending up in the NICU. However, thanks to the doctors and nurses, Garrett made it.
