Actor David Arquette once confessed that his ex-wife, actress Courteney Cox, hated him while making “Scream 2.” Cox portrayed Gale Weathers in the film franchise. He played Deputy Dwight “Dewey” Riley.

"Friends" alum Courteney Cox opened up about working alongside her then-estranged husband David Arquette on the movie "Scream 4" in an interview with EW.com in April 2011. When asked why she wanted to work on the fourth installment, she said:

"I enjoy doing all three of them. That's where I met David. Each 'Scream' represents a huge turning point in my life."

ONSET WORK RELATIONSHIP

The Alabama native explained she met Arquette, 50, on the franchise's first installment and revealed they did not like each other on the second one.

Cox shared they got married right before the third film, and their only child, daughter Coco (now seventeen), was born right before the fourth installment.

In "Scream 4," Weathers and Dewey are going through marital troubles, and Cox and Arquette also had their fair share of marital woes in real-life during production at the time.

When asked if she found the entire experience awkward or cathartic, the mom of one divulged that it was not while explaining they loved each other and got on well:

"We are the closest of friends. I would say we're probably better now than we were during that movie. The movie was just a little bit of a tough time. I don't have the fondest memories of those moments during that film."

Meanwhile, her former husband Arquette appeared on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” last month and joked that she loved him during “Scream” but despised him in the second installment:

“The first ‘Scream’ we were falling in love, the second ‘Scream,’ she hated me.”

THEIR MARRIAGE & DIVORCE

The former couple started dating shortly after the horror film's release in 1996, and within three years, they walked down the aisle at a star-studded ceremony.

By the time the fourth installment hit cinemas in 2011, the pair's marriage was already rocky, as they announced their separation in 2010. Still, the former professional wrestler remained hopeful that they would patch things up, but it never happened.

Soon after the duo announced they were parting ways, an emotional Arquette spoke frankly about the issues they had within their union with a marriage counselor, Howard Stern.

During the candid chat on the shock jock’s radio show, the Virginia native admitted maturity was not one of his strong points. He also revealed Cox’s 11th wedding anniversary present was a clear sign that she did not want to nag him anymore.

Cox gifted him the one thing she previously banned him from having, a motorcycle. The director shared the Hollywood starlet told him that she did not want to be his mother anymore.

REUNITING ON-SCREEN

Nevertheless, the exes are set to reunite on-screen for their upcoming fifth installment film, "Scream," more than ten years after the last one. The trailer for the movie dropped in October, teasing the stars' return with some new faces.

The reboot is the first film in the franchise not directed by horror master Wes Craven, who died from a brain tumor at age 76 in 2015. The new film’s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are longtime fans of Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson’s original creation.
