Batman' Star Zoë Kravitz Sheds Light on Catwoman's Sexuality — What Is It?

Catwoman's fluid grace and aura have been under speculations pointing to the possibility that she is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. And now, Zoë Kravitz gave insight into the superhero character's sexual orientation.

Installments of the Batman franchise introduced fans to the superhero's relations with other characters like the Joker and Catwoman. While, from the time being, there have been romantic undertones between Catwoman and Batman, many have wondered if she had sexual fluidity.

In a recent interview, Hollywood star Zoë Kravitz who currently plays Selina Kyle and Catwoman in ''Batman," shared some clarifications.

IS CATWOMAN A MEMBER OF THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY?

Over time, Catwoman's daring character has been established as a superhero who might have been obsessed with Batman. Catwoman is almost inseparable from the Gotham City hero each time she pops up in the Batman franchise.

However, her aura seemed to border on sexual fluidity, which has never been explored in action and adventure movies. Presently in 2022, the narrative with which Catwoman is portrayed appears to be taking a turn.

There have been a few pointers suggesting that Selina or Catwoman is bisexual. For example, in one of the scenes, she is seen referring to her pal, Anika as "baby," despite their relationship being viewed as platonic.

In a recent interview with Pedestrian's Matt Galea, Catwoman actress Zoë Kravitz gave insight into the superhero's sexual orientation. When asked if Catwoman was bisexual, Kravitz replied:

"That's definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship."

MATT REEVES' TAKE ON THE CATWOMAN SEXUALITY

In a separate interview, Galea inquired the "Batman's" director, Matt Reeves, about Selina Kyle's relationship with Anika. While Reeves did not delve into who Selina was attracted to, he did mention that she was attracted to strays.

According to Reeves, Anika and Selina are strays and this common ground has them drawn to each other. While adding that Selina loved Anika, Reeves stated about her sexuality, "So I don't think we meant to go directly in that way, but you can interpret it that way for sure." He continued:

"She has an intimacy with that character and it's a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them."

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM CATWOMAN

The first time Kravitz auditioned in the Batman franchise, she was tagged "too urban" for the Catwoman's role. However, 2019 became the turning point when an announcement was made that she would star alongside Robert Pattinson in the latest installment.

Fast forward to post-production, and it is safe to say that the "Big Little Lies" actress has settled into her new role as the feline superhero. Speaking to Buzzfeed, the star shared tidbits on Catwoman's personality.

The 33-year-old stated that with Catwoman, there was a lot of kicking, stunts, and floor work. Speaking about her costume, she noted that it required a collaborative process. The "Divergent" star added that she made an input on adding nails to Catwoman's suit.
