Who Is Vanessa Paradis? Story of Her Relationship and Split from Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp shares two children with his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Pardis. Although they were never married, the pair shared a deep connection and love for each other.

Johnny Depp is undoubtedly one of the best actors of his time, giving him both talent and good looks. This is why it is no surprise that many women fell for him throughout the years.

However, the woman that captivated his heart into marriage was actress Amber Heard, who he now faces in a court battle. The former lovers became a hot topic amidst the defamation suit Depp filed against his ex-wife.

WHY DIDN'T JOHNNY DEPP LOOK AT AMBER HEARD?

In a previous trial, those in the courtroom may have noticed how the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star refused to look at Heard. The actor's attorney, Camille Vasquez, asked Heard if she knew why Depp hadn't looked at her, to which the actress replied, "I do." Vasquez said:

“He promised you you would never see his eyes again, is that true? [...] He's kept that promise, hasn't he?”

Depp and Heard's legal feud has been ongoing for the past couple of years, but it was only recently that he sued her for defamation over a piece she wrote for The Washington Post. Before Heard, Depp had previous relationships, including one with Vanessa Paradis.

HOW DID JOHNNY DEPP MEET VANESSA PARADIS?

Depp met French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis in 1998, and they remained together for 14 years until 2012. According to the "Sweeney Todd" star, it was love at first sight with Paradis. He said:

“She was wearing a dress with an exposed back, and I saw that back and that neck, and then she turned around, and I saw those eyes, and – boom! My life as a single man was done.”

Although the couple didn't tie the knot, they had children together: Lily-Rose and John Christopher. Depp never thought he would need a paper to prove their love for each other. "Marriage is really soul to soul, heart to heart," he said, as reported by Hollywood Life.

WHY DID JOHNNY DEPP AND VANESSA PARADIS SPLIT?

Although the couple seemed happy in 2011, their romantic relationship ended in 2012, a year after Depp met Heard. According to Depp's publicist, they "amicably separated."

Despite their relationship's end, Pardis only had fond memories and nice words about Depp. Amidst his controversy with Heard, Pardis denied her ex-partner ever being violent towards her. She said:

“I have seen that these outrageous statements have been really distressing and also caused damage to his career [...]. He has helped so many persons in his personal and professional life with kindness and generosity.”

When Heard filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage, she claimed that Depp abused her while intoxicated. She also received a $7 million divorce settlement from the actor, which she said went to charitable organizations.

In 2018, Heard penned an op-ed for The Washington Post about domestic violence without mentioning Depp's name. However, it was clear that he was the man she referred to. As a result, Depp lost job contracts and had his name tarnished.
