Michael and Pollan first met in the early 1980s on the set of "Family Ties." At the time, she played Ellen Reed, the love interest of his TV character. Their onscreen chemistry extended to real life, but neither acted on it because Pollan was in a relationship.

However, the plot took another turn when they met again on the set of "Bright Lights, Big City." Around this time, Michael learned that Pollan and her then-boyfriend, Kevin Bacon, had broken up.

He wasted no time hitting her up and asking her on a date. The duo went on to date for seven months, and by 1988, they were ready to walk down the aisle. Their road to marriage was not easy, as Michael and Pollan received multiple death threats.
