Ashton Kutcher Made Mom Sob by Remodelling Modest Family Home He Helped Build at 13 after His Parents' Divorce

Award-winning actor Ashton Kutcher had his life turned upside down after losing his nuclear family at age 13; still, he was mature enough to continue to love his mother. Years later, he remodeled their modest family home, which was a tear-jerking moment for the family's matriarch.

Ashton Kutcher became a product of a broken home during his teenage years. This was a severe blow, but he never let that triumph over his ability to become an adorable family man.

Although he was married to Demi Moore for eight years, following his marriage to wife number two, Mila Kunis, the actor has been a supportive husband, full of gratitude, and a doting father.

In 2017, during his stage moment, while receiving the Robert D. Ray Pilliar of Character Award in West Des Moines, Kutcher talked about the importance of love as humans, and then he dedicated the award to his family. Before concluding his speech, the actor also added:

"So this award is for you. It is for my family… it's for my wife, who kicks my ass on character every day…The greatest, greatest lesson in character in my life are my kids."

Ashton also talked about his former marriage and how it shaped him. In the end, the actor included his parents for their support and love for him.

WHAT WAS ASHTON KUTCHER'S CHILDHOOD LIKE?

Ashton's birthplace is Cedar Rapids, Lowa, where he was also raised alongside his twin brother. The boys were born Christopher Ashton Kutcher and Michael Anthony Kutcher in 1978, seven days before Valentine's Day.

Sadly, Michael was diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy. But apart from the medical condition, the boys were very alike and shared a formidable bond.

While on Oprah Winfrey's show, their mother, Diane, confessed that her sons were mischievous boys. They had a humble beginning, growing up with their older sister far from Hollywood.

As time passed, their dad lost his job, and the family was plunged into managing and grasping whatever resources they could find; at school, the boys ate with food stamps.

Years later, the actor boldly addressed an audience and spoke about his childhood struggles. As if that was not enough, Ashton later talked about his brother's partial cerebral palsy.

This made Michael upset. He had hidden the condition his entire life and thought that his famous brother's move set him up for a life of pity. Actually, it set him up for more incredible things.

After the big reveal, a woman with a daughter with severe cerebral palsy asked Michael to share his story at a gala. Eventually, Ashton's twin realized that he could be an inspiration and has since been grateful to his brother for being able to live a life free of shame. In his words:

"Chris did me the biggest favor he's ever done because he allowed me to be myself."

ASHTON KUTCHER DEALT WITH HIS OWN STRUGGLES

Despite being a bubbly little boy, Ashton was crushed when his parents divorced. Months later, his twin went under the knife for emergency heart surgery. This was too much for the 13-year-old. However, he remained close to Michael, providing as much support as possible.

Once his parents parted, their dad went away, leaving all three kids with their mom, who married another man. They all moved in with their mom, and Ashton built their farmhouse in Homestead with his stepfather, Mark.

The farmhouse was home to Ashton and his siblings for many years. Once Ashton was college-ready, he studied close to home at the University of Iowa.

There, he majored in genetics to understand Michael's heart condition in the hope of curing him. Instead, Ashton maintained zeal as he fended for himself in school, working odd jobs and donating blood to raise money.

But the story all changed when a modeling scout noticed him. Young Ashton, in his sophomore year, was later picked for a contest in his hometown, and in no time, he began modeling for big brands like Calvin Klein.

His mother was shocked when she saw her son model in his underpants. Diane wondered if it would be on TV for the world to view, but she did not interfere with her son's schedule.

On the other hand, Ashton remained grounded, staying loyal to his family despite the fame and fortune he encountered: he even stayed a mama's boy.

ASHTON KUTCHER DECIDES TO REMODEL HIS CHILDHOOD HOME

Years after becoming one of the world's favorite actors, Ashton remembered his roots and decided to bless his mom with a memorable gift, as he believed she made many sacrifices for him.

The actor remodeled her farmhouse in Homestead to put a smile on her face and fulfill his desire to repay her, a place he still calls home because his mother still lives there.

While refurbishing the property, Ashton made sure to keep it simple and beautiful without changing the entire look.

Instead, he only focused on the basement, giving his mother the basement of her dreams.

The actor provided a brighter space with a larger window, a fireplace, and a broader opening that appeared more homely.

While renovating, he removed the old toys and stuck them up with antique decor and a piano.

Once the renovation was over, Ashton asked Diane to return home — she had been away in his home.

His mother was delighted and emotional at the same time. Through her tears, she said:

"It does mean a lot to me. It's just, it's beautiful. "

ASHTON KUTCHER AS A FAMILY MAN

Kutcher's time as a family man began in 2005 when he married Demi Moore. Initially, the pair seemed like a match made in heaven, but their relationship deteriorated as the actor failed to honor his vows.

Following an alleged cheating scandal, Moore ended the marriage in 2013, and Ashton returned to being single. However, this status did not last long. The dashingly handsome star soon found love with a former co-star, Mila Kunis.

The pair had starred on "That '70s Show," and Ashton intended to set her up with a friend. Fast forward to when they met again, their connection was undeniable, and soon, they became a couple.

In 2014, they welcomed their first child, daughter Wyatt Isabelle. The following year, they said their "I dos" in a small ceremony, and Dimitri Portwood, baby number two, joined the family in 2016.

After the birth of their second child, the actor jokingly admitted that he was less prepared, adding that while waiting for baby Wyatt's birth, he read books and was "ready." However, with Dimitri, Ashton explained that:

"This one, I haven't done anything. I'm like, 'Well, we didn't break the first one.' They're really durable — that's what you realize. They don't break very easily."

Nonetheless, the celebrity couple is more than equipped to care for their kids and has decided not to raise spoiled brats. Kunis maintained that even though their kids would enjoy some comfort, they must not turn out feeling entitled. According to the mother-of-two:

"It's a matter of teaching them from a very early age that, you know, 'Mommy and Daddy may have a dollar, but you're poor. You are very poor, you have nothing. Mommy and Daddy have a bank account.'"

Kunis and Ashton's humble beginnings informed this initiative. The actress explained that her dad worked seven jobs to make ends meet. Similarly, Ashton understands what it is like not to have enough.

Despite their fame and fortune, the couple resides in a sustainable farmhouse (living by example). It is a modern farmhouse that boasts a guest house, barbecue area, and insides, including high wooden ceilings, and soft furniture, that provides a homely feel.

This was their expectation when they renovated the property. Ashton is still in awe of his childhood farmhouse and refers to the place as "home." In an interview, the actor confessed that his admiration for the farmhouse began when he began to explore other places. He said:

"I left Iowa wanting to get out of Iowa, and the older I get the more I want to come home."

Today, the father-of-two believes that there is no place like his modest home and continues to live a simple life while enjoying fatherhood, and marriage, amid being a loving son.
