As Vulture reported, Novak denied dating Kaling amid rumors that they were in a romantic relationship. The "Inglourious Basterds" actor explained his unique relationship with his co-star:

"We were never really dating, we were never really not dating. We didn’t know. No one knew. All you’d know for sure is that you’d always find one of us next to the other, even if we weren't getting along."

For her part, the "Never Have I Ever" producer described her unique relationship with Novak as "weird as hell." The 43-year-old comedian stated that Novak is not her boyfriend nor her best friend.

Fans, however, suggested that Novak may be the father of Kaling's children.

After leaving "The Office" in 2012, Kaling created her comedy series "The Mindy Project," in which she co-starred with Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, and Zoe Jarman, among others.

The comedy seems to be based on Kaling's personal experiences since the character she portrays in the show has a messy love life. Novak co-wrote the series, so it's no surprise they based it on their confusing relationship.

Novak has served as a consultant on programs for Kaling. Besides his creative contributions to the development of the program, he appeared as a romantic interest called Jamie in an episode several years back.

Several fans have teased Kaling and Novak about their purported romance. Novak previously declared on Twitter, saying "Mindy and I are soup snakes" after their episode of "The Mindy Project" aired in 2103.

The quirky term originated from an earlier episode of "The Office," in which the character of Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, erroneously translated the words "soulmates" as "soup snakes."

That same year, Kaling went to her first Met Gala with Novak as each other's date. She donned a gorgeous gown by Lela Rose in a plum hue, while the dashing actor wore a dark Armani suit for the occasion.

Although Kaling has repeatedly explained that she is not romantically connected with Novak, fans were taken aback when she announced on "The Howard Stern Show" in September 2014 that Novak had broken up with her years before.

Her breakup with the "Vengeance" star made her sad rather than furious. When Howard Stern questioned whether Kaling would marry Novak, she replied, "At the time? Yeah. I was 24. For the record, if anyone asked me to marry them, I would have said yes."

Despite Kaling's admission that Novak had broken up with her, the two have remained close throughout the years. Both TV stars have supported each other's accomplishments.

The twosome seemed to be enjoying creating headlines together. Kaling posted a screenshot of her and Novak's text conversation on Instagram in December 2014, wherein she requested a carrot cake from Soho House and a hug.

In May 2015, Kaling stunned fans with another fantastic collaboration with Novak in December 2015. Rumors circulated that their book would disclose the pair's genuine connection, but Kaling swiftly debunked the claim.

In April of the same year, Kaling proudly displayed a bouquet of breathtaking white roses on social media that Novak had brought her while filming on the set of her film "Late Night."

On her birthday in June 2019, Novak paid Kaling a lovely tribute. Given his sweet gestures, Kaling previously addressed on CBS Sunday Morning the constant fascination of fans about her and Novak's relationship.

Kaling remarked she appreciates it when people think her and Novak's relationship is more romantic. She is grateful that their fans place such an emphasis on the beautiful bond between them.

It never ceases to amaze the public how well Novak and Kaling get along humorously and charmingly. They were each other's chic dates to the 2018 Academy Awards.

Kaling is the mother of two children: Katherine, 4, who was born in 2017, and Spencer, 1, who was born in 2020. The famous comedian never revealed the identity of her children's father.

Fans, however, suggested that Novak may be the father of Kaling's children. But, the mother of two denied the rumors, claiming that her co-star is Katherine's godfather and has a close relationship with her daughter.

Kaling opted not to reveal the identity of Katherine's father because she wanted her daughter to decide whether or not she was interested in knowing more about her father. The same deal applies to her son as well.

She has never shared pictures of her children's faces; instead, she has solely highlighted the back portion of their bodies. In doing so, Kaling emphasized the importance of using her freedom to establish limits as a mother and performer.
