Nicolas Cage Was Divorced 4 Times Yet Did Not Give Up & Finally 'Got It Right' with 5th Wife
Movie star Nicholas Cage has had his fair share of failed marriages over the years. However, after getting hitched for the fifth time, he said it was "not happening" again.
Actor Nicholas Cage met his first wife, actress Patricia Arquette in 1987 at Canter's Deli in Los Angeles. It was love at first sight for Cage, who boldly asked Arquette to marry him on their first meeting.
Because they hardly knew each other, when he proposed, the "True Romance" star dismissed it as she thought he was merely joking about marriage.

"I said, 'I want to marry you,' she said, 'You're crazy,' and she didn't believe me," Cage recalled. In trying to convince her of his seriousness, the filmmaker asked the "Medium" star to put him on a quest.
He said at the end of the pursuit, if he succeeded in finding whatever she asked for, she would have to marry him. Cage revealed that when Arquette gave him the list, he instantly knew that it was meant to be because the things she asked for were innovative and creative:
"She wanted a black orchid. She wanted J.D. Salinger's signature, and anybody who reads knows he hardly ever signed anything. She wanted a wedding dress from the Lisu tribe in northern Thailand and one of those Bob's Big Boy statues. So, I set out on my quest."
During an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live!" Arquette said it scared her that Cage found everything she listed because they were hard to find. The pair soon started dating when she was nineteen.
Cage and Arquette then decided to fly to Cuba to get married, but the plan got derailed when he lost his temper at the airport regarding issues with his tickets. He explained that the incident ruined things between him and Arquette:
"That scared Patricia. She didn't like how I was yelling at everybody. She went back to her boyfriend."

Cage admitted that the two-time Emmy Award winner broke his heart for a long time. But the two kept in touch for eight years. As fate would have it, he returned to Canter's and ran into her again.
Arquette was 27 years old then, and two months after bumping into Cage, she called him and proposed to him, and he agreed. The lovebirds wed two weeks later, in April 1995, on top of a cliff in Carmel, California.
However, after only nine months of being newlyweds, the pair split up but continued to make public appearances together. They even co-starred in the film "Bringing Out the Dead."

Then in February 2000, Cage filed for divorce, but he changed his mind to salvage their marriage. Later in the year, Arquette was the one that decided to file for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences." Cage's publicist later released a statement saying the decision for the couple's split was "mutual and respectful."
This time, their relationship ended for good. In October 2018, the "Ghost Rider" revealed to the Guardian that he had not spoken to Arquette in a while and that their marriage was not noteworthy.

The humanitarian met his second wife, singer-songwriter Lisa Presley at a party in 2000 while married to Arquette. They first appeared together at the premiere of "Captain Corelli's Mandolin."
The couple first went public with their relationship at the premiere of the WWII romance film. But from there on, their relationship was on and off. They officially wed in August 2002 in a surprise ceremony held in Hawaii after two years of dating.
A source revealed that the wedding was planned for only a few weeks, four months after the initial engagement. Only months into the union, problems arose between the newlyweds.

They had a big fight while sailing on a yacht, which resulted in Presley's
engagement being thrown into the ocean. Though Cage attempted to recover it by sending divers, the mission failed, and he bought her another one. Still, the tension between the couple did not go away, and their intense fights made numerous headlines.
Cage eventually filed for divorce in November 2002, only three months after getting married to Presley. The divorce ended in a lengthy legal battle that outlasted their union. Documents filed stated that the pair "amicably resolved" their brief marriage.

The "Face/Off" star later expressed regret regarding the dissolution of his marriage to Presley, adding that he wished they had not rushed to wed:
"It's sad, and I miss her every day, and sometimes I wish we couldn’t have rushed the marriage, and sometimes I regret rushing the divorce, but it just seemed like it wasn’t going to change."

Cage fell in love again with Alice Kim, who was 20 years his junior. Kim was a former waitress whom the Hollywood star met when she was 19 and working at a restaurant in Los Angeles.
The pair soon married in 2004 so she could accompany him on a work trip to South Africa where he was filming "Lord of War." But Cage insisted that they only tied the knot because they "loved each other."
However, Kim's family was against the union because of the age difference between the two. He recounted that when his mother-in-law first came to their house, the first thing she said was that Kim was too young to be married to him. After that, he knew that winning his in-laws over would take a lot of work, but the California native managed.

He revealed that once he married Kim, his life became stable. The couple welcomed a son named Kal-EI in October 2005, and as busy as Cage was with his career, he said he never spent more than four days away from his child and became a good father.
But he and Kim divorced in 2016, which was a surprise to him. Cage said he did not foresee the divorce, which was a big shock to him.

Despite being hurt by the end of his third marriage, Cage wed for the fourth time. He married another younger woman, his girlfriend Erika Koike, in March 2019 in Vegas.
However, he made headlines after filing for annulment four days later, claiming that he was heavily drunk when they got hitched while partying in Vegas. But things became messy afterward. Koike demanded spousal support, of which details of the filing remained secret.

Still, even after being defrauded by Koike, Cage relentlessly pursued another relationship as he never lost hope because of the heartbreaks. He met his future fifth wife, Riko Shibata, in Shiga, Japan. The pair were first photographed together in February 2020 while visiting Cage's pyramid-shaped tomb at the New Orleans cemetery.
After six months apart, Cage unconventionally proposed to Shibata via FaceTime in August 2020. The duo wed on February 16, 2021, in Las Vegas at the Wynn Hotel in an intimate ceremony.
Following the nuptials, Cage revealed to People that he and Shibata "are very happy" after getting married. The bride donned a handmade Japanese Bridal Kimono while the groom wore a Tom Ford Tuxedo.

The pair exchanged Catholic and Shinto vows, and played Shibata's favorite tune, "Winter Song" by Kiroro. Notably, the wedding date was significant for the couple as it honored Cage's father's birthday.
In an interview with GQ for the April 2022 issue, Cage confessed that he was a romantic whenever in love because he wanted to give his lover his all.
"It's my expression of saying, ‘I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.’ And this is it for me. I mean, this is not happening again. This is it. This is it."

In January 2022, Cage told the Los Angeles Times that he was happily married, noting that though being married five times was a bit much, he believes he got it right this time:
"I'm really happily married. I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time."

In January 2022, Entertainment Tonight reported that the A-lister and his wife Shibata were expecting their first child together. This would be his third as he is already a dad to Kal-EI and Weston from previous relationships.
When asked in April 2022 what he was looking forward to about becoming a father again, Cage said he missed everything about being a new parent, including watching a child discover things for the first time.

He joked that some of the things he missed were taking them to have lobster dinner and seeing them freak out at the table. The doting dad said he missed going to the toy store, singing lullabies, and rocking in rocking chairs.
Notably, Cage is also a grandfather as his eldest son Weston - whom he shares with former girlfriend Christina Fulton - has four children, Lucian, Venice, Cypress, and Sorin.
When asked in 2020 about his first grandchild Lucian, the Golden Globe Award winner, said he loved every minute of being a granddad. Asked about his favorite thing about his grandson, he proudly shared that it was his smile.
