CARIN VAN DER DONK AND VINCENT D'ONOFRIO'S RELATIONSHIP

Despite being married for decades, little is known about van der Donk and D'Onofrio's relationship. They married in 1997 and shared two sons named Luca and Elliot, whom they welcomed in 2008 and 2001, respectively.

Aside from Luca and Elliot, D'Onofrio also has a daughter named Leila George from a previous relationship with actress Greta Scacchi in the early 1990s.

Like any other Hollywood couple, van der Donk and D'Onofrio haven't been spared from rumors of separation through the years. In fact, after realizing that his wife would come across articles online about their alleged breakup, the actor decided to set the record straight once and for all in 2012, saying:

"I’m married to my wife almost 16 years now. I just wish they would get it right."

The couple proudly focuses on their children, not letting the noise of Hollywood affect them and their family life. They are a tight-knit family that shares the same lifestyle, particularly that of being vegetarian.

While van der Dork and her two sons are exclusively vegetarian, D'Onofrio admitted that he'd sometimes sneak a steak into his diet despite eating plants and healthy food most of the time.

Ultimately, D'Onofrio disclosed that at the end of the day, it was his family's happiness and wellness that brought him the most joy, so he is most definitely willing to do anything for that to stay constant.

During an interview, D'Onofrio shared that he is fulfilled seeing his children happy. His daughter, Leila George, is an actress who enjoys what she does, while her son Luca is starting to find his way as a teenager. Likewise, he shared that his eldest son is a unique person finding his happiness.

WHO IS CAREN VAN DER DONK'S HUSBAND?

Born on June 30, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York, D'Onofrio spent most of his life in New York City. After graduating from high school, he and his best friend drove across the US to live in Boulder, Colorado, where he discovered his love for acting.

While living in Boulder, he discovered the community theater circuit, which eventually inspired his move back to his native New York. He didn't know he wanted to pursue a Hollywood career then, but he was sure he wanted to work in the arts.

After working on Broadway, D'Onofrio's film career began with Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket." For his role, D'Onofrio had to gain 75 pounds and shave his head, which he admitted was a difficult time in his career. He shared:

"People treat you differently when you're fat. In restaurants, waiters were always condescending."

Eventually, this role would lead to a streak of other film and TV roles through the years. By the early 2000s, D'Onofrio was a star on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," which made him a household name for decades.

He had worked so hard at the time that he had to be treated for exhaustion after fainting twice a month. After being treated at the hospital, it took him another week before he could return to work.

VINCENT D'ONOFRIO'S DAUGHTER WAS MARRIED TO SEAN PENN

Although van der Donk and D'Onofrio have been happily married for over two decades, he was once the center of controversy in the early 1990s during his relationship with actress Greta Scacchi. He allegedly left the actress shortly after she gave birth to their daughter Leila George in 1992.

At the time, Scacchi was left devastated. She admitted she couldn't work for four years because of the heartbreak, despite her career taking off at the time.

Eventually, their daughter Leila George followed in their footsteps. She became an actress, allowing her to meet influential people in the industry, including veteran actor Sean Penn.

Penn, who dated high-profile celebrities like Madonna and Charlize Theron, first made a public appearance with George in 2016. They eventually married in a "COVID wedding" in 2020, hoping to immortalize their love story.

Their wedding was officiated through a video call, where the only witnesses were Penn's children and one of George's brothers. Unfortunately, a year after the wedding, Penn and George decided to call it quits and filed for divorce.
