Susan Sarandon Did Not Marry Ex-boyfriend of 23 Years — He Later Secretly Married a Woman Nearly Half His Age

After 23 years together, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins split and broke many fans' hearts. Sarandon, who does not believe in marriage, is still looking for a partner, and Tims found himself a young wife, 33 years younger than him.

Susan Sarandon, an activist who is not afraid to be controversial, met her partner Tim Robbins on the set of the baseball film "Bull Durham." Robbins, 12 years younger than Saradon, played her on-screen lover and ended up becoming her partner in real life.

In an interview with Telegraph, Sandron said she had to fight for her role as Annie in the film. The actress even paid for her flight to get to the audition. "They told me they wanted someone else and wouldn't even pay for my plane. I felt so humiliated.." she said

But she got the part because the people wanted by the production company "would not even read for the part," Sarandon explained. Her life took a different direction from the day she met Robbins.

The couple went on to purchase a duplex in New York, where they led private but very normal lives that were not typical for celebrities.

Insider Magzine writer Gabrielle Sierra said she would casually see Sarandron running errands and Robbins playing roller hockey every weekend.

Robbins and Sarandon share two sons, Miles and Jack. The actress also has a daughter, Eva, from her previous relationship with the director, Franco Amurri.

While on the podcast, "Divorced not Dead," Sarandon said Robbins loved Eva like his own; however, having their sons brought a few problems in the relationship.

The actress said her partner was jealous of her connection with her sons. Sandron believed it came from the troubled relationship Robbins had with his mother.

Sarandon is known for looking at life in peculiar ways. For instance, the actress said she has the most fun doing depressing films.

For most actors, the sadder the film, the higher the emotional toll, but for Sarandon, it becomes an enjoyable challenge because she "can't bear the idea of not having a good time."

Additionally, the actress has been vocal about not getting married. Her reason for not participating in this famous tradition is based on the act of constantly choosing to be with her partner.

Saradon believed that marriage could take away from appreciating and putting effort into the relationship. She did not want to be taken for granted; however, since her partnership of 23 years with Robbins ended, the actress does not seem too sure anymore.

Even though Sarandon might question her reasons, she is still set on not making it to the alter, even after sharing two decades and two children with her "Bull Durham" costar.

Sarandon has been married once before. When she was 20 years old, she tied the knot with her college sweetheart Chris Sarandon. The Sarandons were together from 1967 to 1979, they did not have any children, but Susan decided to keep her marital surname.

In the 2012 podcast interview on "Divorced not Dead," the actress revisited the reason why she never decided to get married again. Sarandon said:

“Maybe it was a fear of losing your identity. When you become a couple (that's) so easy to have happen, maybe it was partly that."

SUSAN SARANDON AND TIM ROBBINS SHOCKING BREAK UP

In 2009, when Sarandon and Robbins announced their separation after 23 years, it shocked fans. In an interview with the Telegraph, the actress said people would come to her and express how heartbroken they were about the split.

Contrary to Sarandon closing the chapter on romance, her former partner Tim Robbins found a young woman to marry.

Saradon confessed she was even sadder because she did not think what they had would ever end. However, the actress implied that her relationship with Robbins had run its course, and they had both fulfilled the purpose they had in each other lives. It was time for them to explore life differently.

After the actors announced their split, it was rumored that Sarandon had started dating business parter and ping pong enthusiast Johnathan Bricklin. Still, she denied this and specified their relationship was professional.

But in 2014, Sarandon was asked about Bricklin on ABC news, with whom she owns her ping pong business Spin; she said they shared many different things.

When the interviewer asked if that also implied romance, the actress did not give any confirmative details. She just said, "Yeah, I think so."

The 75-year-old actress is currently single. Sarandon told People magazine she believed the window of romance was closed. Although she has not given up on finding a companion, she is not "desperate," the actress declared.

The actress also said she is open to a partner, man or woman; age does not matter; Saradon wants someone to have an enjoyable time with.

TIM ROBBINS DIVORCES HIS SECRET WIFE

Contrary to Sarandon closing the chapter on romance, her former partner Tim Robbins found a young woman to marry.

The actor met his young wife, Graciela Brâncuşi, whom he met in 2016 at his nonprofit theater, The Actors' Gang. Brâncuşi worked as the marketing coordinator, and Robbins was the artistic director.

The couple went public in 2018 when they appeared at the premiere of Robbins' HBO series "Here and Now." The actor's girlfriend wore a ring a year later as they posed at the "Dark Waters" movie premiere.

However, according to reports, Robbins' married Brâncuşi secretly in 2017; this was not known until the "Top Gun" star filed for divorce in 2020, citing irreconcilable differences.

Robbins' ex-wife was 33 years younger than him; although her age was not specified, she was assumed to be almost as old as the actor's children, Jack, 33, and Miles, 30.
