The Duke of Sussex was reportedly "unhappy" long before Markle came along.
Events surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure from England have been covered in a recent book. There are speculations on which party between the duo influenced the move.
Per Express, royal author, Valentine Low, explores events surrounding the departure of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from the Royal Family in his new book, "Courtiers: The Inside Story of the Palace Power Struggles."

Low also unpacks the bullying allegations leveled against the Duchess of Sussex by former royal staff, which she vehemently denied. The American native has also been accused of being bossy.
The author claimed that she once told one of the Duke of Sussex's advisors (before the couple got engaged) that she would be their boss in due time: "I think we both know I'm going to be one of your bosses soon."
Markle has also been pointed out as the key person who could be responsible for all the happenings in the couple's life and the volatile relationship the pair have with the Royal Family.
Royal Author Says Markle Is Not Soley to Blame for Megxit
In an opinion piece for The New Zealand Herald, royal author, Daniela Elser, begs to differ regarding Markle being the sole instigator on Megxit. Elser questioned why, after nearly three years, the public still believes that the former actress was the only person who had something to do with the move to the US.
She wrote that to acknowledge that the Duchess was not "the key agitator" responsible for the move, people need to admit that her husband "was in truth a deeply unhappy man." The columnist said "the most glaring, important takeaway" from Low's book is that the prince was "just as complicit."
Per The Sun, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Duran revealed in their co-authored book, "Finding Freedom," that Markle was not the one influencing the couple's decisions.
A publishing insider disclosed that her spouse, Prince Harry, even despises the term "Megxit" because it drives the narrative that the mother of his kids was the one behind their move from England:
"That word 'Megxit' in particular has always angered Prince Harry. It gives the impression that the decision to walk away from the Royal Family was Meghan's."
"The reality is Harry drove that decision. The book will make that clear and explain why it had to happen. The truth is Harry had been unhappy for a long time," the source added. The insider further explained the Duke of Sussex knew what direction he wanted to take with his wife because he had been contemplating the idea for a while.
As such, Markle supported him, but there were instances where she asked the father of her children numerous times whether he was serious about wanting to start a new life. The mom of two was crystal clear in that she would stand by the prince's decision.
Prince Harry Was Indeed 'Unhappy' - He Struggled with Mental Health
The Duke was indeed miserable while living in the UK, which was the result of trauma suffered since the passing of his mother, Princess Diana, who tragically died in 1997.
Per People, in August 2021, the royal opened up about the death of the Princess of Wales in his Apple TV+ docuseries "The Me You Can't See," saying he attempted to numb the pain of losing her:
"I was willing to drink. I was willing to take drugs. I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling."
Prince Harry revealed that he eventually started drinking a lot during the week – though it was not from Monday to Friday – and realized that he was not drinking for enjoyment but "was trying to mask something."
The father of two was only 12 years old when his mom was killed in a car accident in Paris while being pursued by the paparazzi. He expressed that he was "so angry" because of how the People's Princess passed away "and the fact that there was no justice at all."
Moreover, the prince criticized his father, King Charles III, for his parenting style in May 2021, per Page Six. The British native said His Majesty made him "suffer" as a child, adding that the Royal Family tried to prevent him and Markle from leaving the monarchy even when the Duchess expressed that she was suicidal:
"My father used to say to me when I was younger, 'Well, it was like that for me, so it's going to be like that for you.”
Prince Harry stated that what his father had told him was senseless while explaining that just because he went through bad experiences did not mean he should mistreat his children. He said that, on the contrary, if a parent has experienced hardships in their younger years, they should ensure their kids never have to go through the same thing again.
The Duke of Sussex noted that by doing that, one breaks "the cycle" by ensuring that "history does not repeat itself."
In addition, the former pilot divulged that he felt "trapped within" the Royal Family as there were no chances of escaping royal life. However, when he eventually found a way out and informed his family about his decision to leave, he was told: "You can't do this," and that statement left him bamboozled.
The prince questioned how bad things should get before he could be "allowed" to leave. He worried that his spouse was thinking about committing suicide and that the situation should not be allowed to get to that point.
When reflecting on his life as a working royal, the Duke said the possibility of "losing another woman" in his life was "triggering."
He explained the circumstances would have led to that unwanted incident because it would have been caused by the same system he was trying to run away from, "the same people, the same business model," and "the same industry."
