After taking the role of chief culture officer at Fun Wine, Christina Aguilera spoke about the importance of self-expression and passing it down to her children. The "Genie in a Bottle" singer said that from a young age, she knew the value of using her voice to share her story.

And the singer did not only use her platform to share her hardship; she also connected with her fans and let them know they were not alone. Aguilera said she wanted to use her artistry to express herself and encourage others to do the same, including her children.

The mom of two said she wanted her children to be the happiest and best versions of themselves. By giving them her support and ensuring they had all the needed resources, Aguilera shared that she wanted her children to feel comfortable in their skin and explore who they were.

Birth of Summer Rain

Aguilera welcomed Summer on a Saturday in August 2014. She delivered the news to fans via Twitter, where she shared that she and her fiancée, Matthew Rutler, were "so proud to welcome our beautiful daughter."

Before summer was born, her mother anticipated her arrival. She appeared in V Magazine for a maternity shoot where she posed nude and spoke about accepting her changing body in all stages of life:

"As a woman, I'm proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store."

Aguilera had a headline performance at LA Pride Festival, and although she said she loved the "strong sense of community and support," she admitted that she did not always want to be seen. Sometimes she preferred staying home and entertaining family and friends in her backyard.

Aguilera and Rutler have celebrated over ten years of being together and met on the set of "Burlesque" in 2009. From New Jersey, Rutler worked on shows such as "The Proposal," "The Social Network," and "Something Borrowed" as a production assistant.

Despite having a long-term relationship, Aguilera and Rutler have been in no rush to tie the knot; Aguilera said after welcoming Summer, the couple had their hands full with parenthood, a new home, and the singer getting back into work.

Aguilera planned on taking her time regarding wedding plans and wanted to wait until her schedule was clear to cherish the wedding planning process. Besides, the singer said their relationship did not need the validation that may come with marriage:

"Our love is secure enough that we don't need a wedding to prove our love and commitment."

On Valentine's Day, Rutler posted a short clip of him and Aguilera sharing a kiss, and he wrote that she was his "forever valentine," followed by a red heart. And when he wasn't posting about his fiancee, Rutler enjoyed sharing cute moments with his daughter.

Summer and Rutler had what he captioned "watermelon moments," where the father and daughter can be seen smiling and laughing while sharing watermelon outside. In 2021, Aguilera took to social media to celebrate her Leo, daughter, in a post that featured mommy/daughter photos and cuddles in bed.

The proud mother shared that they celebrated a "sweet, thoughtful, funny, creative, soulful" Summer for a week for her 7th birthday. Some snaps showed Summer smiling and missing front teeth, and another of her sleeping in her mom's lap. The post had almost 200 thousand likes and over a thousand comments from fans wishing Summer a happy birthday.

Summer Appeared in a Commercial

For a commercial for Nintendo, Aguilera's children joined their mom in front of the camera. The commercial showed how the singer and her children spend quality time together while she is away at work. Nintendo had a special place in her heart, and she was glad she could share it with her children during family bonding time.

The commercial shows Aguilera, her son Max and Summer, laughing and lounging on the couch during game night. Summer and her brother always influenced Auguiler's decisions when it came to her work; in 2019, Aguilera revealed that she had quit touring so that she could create a stable routine for her children:

" I think of my kids first, always."

She was reluctant to take on her role as a judge on "The Voice" but decided to pursue the project as it kept her in L. A and close to her family, where she could focus on her children.

On Summer's birthday in 2020, Aguilera showed off her daughter's artistic skills in a picture of a cardboard camper Summer made. The family visited a campsite, and Summer loved the experience so much that she made a camper at home. Äguilera wrote that her daughter was "so smart and creative with a vibrant, sweet soul.

Summer decorated the blue/ purple camper with yellow lights and red and purple flowers. Aguilera included a video of Summer inside the camper with a makeshift fire pit. Summer honed in on her creative skills during the lockdown, and her mother shared her artwork that filled walls in their home.

Besides her cardboard camper, Summer made a cardboard castle called Summer's castle." Aguilera wrote in the caption of the post:

"Staying home and making art with this little one... I encourage you to get creative- find ways to do the little things that make you happy. "

Summer Is Not the Only Child in the Family

Aguilera welcomed her first child, Max, in 2008 with her ex-husband Jordan Bratman. Not long after Max was born, his parents separated, and Christina Aguilera found love again with Rutler. In 2020, she posted pictures of the mother/son duo posing outside of an RV, preparing for a summer vacation.
