Mexican recording artist Pedro Rivera met the mother of his children Rosa Saavedra in a singing contest in 1958 in Hermosillo, Sonora, northwestern Mexico. The two were teenagers then, aged 15 and 14 years, respectively.

Pedro, born February 23, 1943, was a lottery seller and ended up being a winner because of a ticket he couldn't sell. The pair then moved to Guadalajara, and Rosa's dad denounced Pedro for eloping with his daughter at a young age, and he had to go to prison.

Rosa and Pedro Rivera then lived in Pedro's parents' house before crossing the border illegally to the U.S. eight years later. They lived in Fresno, California, and Pedro started working as a farm worker, street vendor, and singer, then after, a music producer for the company called Cintas Acuario. They had five children and divorced after 42 years.
