Dashiell John Upton Goes to Film School – All about Cate Blanchett's Oldest Son
Dashiell John Upton is Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton's first son, who may follow in his mom's footsteps in the entertainment industry. Dashiell rarely makes public appearances, but he has been seen more recently.
As the first child of Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, Dashiell John Upton's life has been of public interest since he was born. However, his parents kept him away from the public as much as they could.
Dashiell rarely appeared at red-carpet events with his parents, and his mom did not speak of him often in an attempt to keep his life private. However, she did reveal that he chose a career involving film.

Dashiell John Upton Is Cate Blanchett's First Child
Dashiell was born on December 3, 2001, to Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton. His name, of Scottish origin, was often associated with detective-genre writer Dashiell Hammett, although the reason his parents chose it was not disclosed.
Dashiell's parents had been married for four years when they welcomed their son. The same year, Blanchett appeared in the blockbuster film, "The Lord of the Rings."
Since birth, Dashiell has been noticed by the cameras. His parents even did a public photoshoot with their newborn but later decided to keep his life private.

Dashiell Enrolled in Film School
At 18, Dashiell chose a career path in the entertainment industry and enrolled in film school. His mom supported his studies and even took a year off work to support Dashiell's preparation for the A-level exam. "My son, who's about to go off to film school. He's 18," she said in a podcast.
However, like any mother, Blanchett found it challenging to watch her son leave home. In a previous interview, the award-winning actress said:
"It is difficult to break away, very difficult, but I am so proud of my son [...] It is up to us to redefine the relationship we have with our children and allow them to grow up, to become adults."
Fortunately, Dashiell is not going out to the real world unprepared, as Blanchett imparted essential skills to her children. Having been raised in the age of social media, Dashiell's mom ensured that her kids knew how to correctly fact-check information they found on the internet.
Dashiell Has Three Siblings
Dashiell is the eldest of four children. On April 23, 2004, he became an older brother to Roman Robert Upton, who previously walked the red carpet alongside his mother at the 2012 Helpmann Awards and the 2018 SIHH Trade Show.
Four years after Roman's birth, Dashiell's second brother, Ignatius Martin Upton, was born. Ignatius has seen the red carpet a few times, including the Australia 2020 Summit, the 2014 Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and the 2018 "Ocean's 8" UK premiere, where he accompanied Cate Blanchett.
Dashiell had a sister in March 2015 when Blanchett and Andrew adopted a little girl, Edith Vivian Patricia Upton. The couple planned to adopt for years before finally welcoming Edith into their home.
Dashiell John Upton Lives a Private Life
Although Dashiell is an adult, he still prefers life away from the spotlight and, like his parents, does not have public social media accounts. Since information about him is difficult to come across, rare paparazzi photos are the only way to spot him.
He has been out more recently, with a rare sighting at the 2018 Venice Film Festival. Then 16, Dashiell accompanied his mom while trying to avoid the flashing lights.

Dashiell was seen the same year, walking the streets of Sydney, Australia, with his mom and sister. He was spotted the following year again while in New York City with his family.
According to Blanchett, her children don't care much about their mother's fame. However, the "Don't Look Up" star says it is "in the best possible, healthiest way."
