'Yellowstone's Barry Corbin Found Daughter Whose Mother Gave Her Up – Now She Supports Him in Cancer Battle

Barry Corbin has recently revealed that he has been battling cancer for some time. The star has been keeping his diagnosis to himself, but he has decided that he is ready to share his struggle with the world.

The diagnosis has cast a shadow over his career, but he has not let it get him down too much. He shared what doctors told him when they told him what was plaguing him and said it was difficult to hear.

The "One Tree Hill" alum recalled finding a spot on the inside of his cheek. He said he knew it was cancer immediately, but he didn't discuss it with anybody. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he said that doctors told him he could have lost his voice.

Doctors warned him that the cancer could have affected his vocal cords, which would have caused him to lose his distinctive country drawl. He decided to take a break from work without telling anybody.

He had surgery when he was off, and he shared what it was like to recover from surgery. He mentioned the toll the surgery took on his mind and body, which made filming difficult. He said:

"I didn't realize how much it would knock me out. I was sleeping 12-14 hours a day."

How Did His Wife Support Him?

Corbin's wife was there to support her husband throughout his treatments. He was told that there was a possibility his cancer had progressed and he would need surgery to replace his jawbone with his fibula.

The actor shared that he had broken both his fibulas before and was concerned that they were not in good shape. He was also worried that he would be written out of roles because of how his face was affected.

While Corbin said he had faith in the makeup artists on his sets, he wasn't sure the extent of damage that might be done to his face. His wife lovingly supported him through it all, ensuring he knew she was not going anywhere.

She showed her love and support for him through every challenge. She was never far from her husband when he was in need and shared her thoughts on the surgery by admitting:

"My big fear going into this wasn't his looks. But Barry makes his living off his face and voice, the two things they told us might be most affected."

Why Didn't He Know His Daughter Was Left by Her Mom?

Despite Corbin's recent challenges, he has had a charmed life. Yet when he was younger, he got the shock of his life when he learned he had a daughter he didn't know, whose mother had left her.

Corbin's agent phoned him one day in 1991 and said a young woman was trying to contact him and claiming to be his daughter. The woman's name was Shannon Ross, and upon speaking to her, Corbin realized he was her father.

Ross was conceived in 1964 during a fling that Corbin and the woman's mother had. Ross's mother never told Corbin of their daughter's existence, but years later, Ross found him to ask him if his family had a history of cerebral palsy as her son had it.

Soon after that, Ross and Corbin began talking every day and have done since. The father-daughter duo are close and spend time together riding horses and doing other activities they enjoy.
