My Husband Is Going to Secretly Dine with Woman from Social Media not Knowing I Invited Him – Story of the Day

After a complicated diagnosis, a woman began to suspect her husband was cheating because he was always on his phone. She created a fake profile and invited him to dinner to catch him in the act, but what he did was even more shocking than cheating.

There's only one thing worse than getting sick. It's the idea that you can't pay for your surgery. My family consists of myself, my husband, Lucas, and our three-year-old, Frank. We have no one else as all my family passed away, and Lucas was an orphan. But we did well for ourselves despite everything.

However, when the doctors told me I needed a huge operation on my heart, we were shocked. We didn't have insurance, and we couldn't afford it.

"Mrs. Gordon, we can manage the situation with some meds for now, but you'll need this surgery. Try to do your best to find that money—loans, borrowing, selling stuff, etc. Your life is more important," the doctor said gently.

I was crying heavily, and it felt like a boulder was stuck in my chest.

He wasn't wrong, but he wasn't right either. My life was not more important than having a roof over our heads and being able to feed our son. Still, my husband and I told the doctor we would do everything and bought the medications that would buy us time.

However, I never imagined that something even worse would start happening to our family. I caught Lucas spending way too much time on his phone, and when he saw me staring, he would hide, smile, and change the conversation.

It was odd. My husband was not addicted to social media like me, so he didn't spend much time. But he was texting a lot, and a nagging feeling crept up my spine. Was he cheating on me? How could he do this during the worst time in our lives?

I went online and read some blogs about cheating husbands; the stories were shocking. Many women recount tales of their spouses being unfaithful as soon as they got sick. Some said men didn't want to deal with a sick wife or were looking for someone to fill that spot as soon as their first wife died.

I couldn't believe it, but I got an idea. I opened a fake profile. I added a picture of a random woman I saw online and friended my husband on Facebook.

I opened up the chat as soon as he accepted and sent a few messages:

Hello, there! I see that you live in Scranton too! Would you like to meet me for dinner at some point?

I didn't expect that to work. You don't go out and meet random strangers after one text message. But my husband surprised me.

Sure! When do you have time? Can it be Wednesday? I get off work early.

Then, he suggested going to a restaurant near his office, and I wanted to die. But I had to keep pretending.

Excellent! See you there!

That Wednesday, I got all dolled up. I don't know why. I felt so insecure. My husband had no qualms about cheating on me right after my diagnosis, and he accepted random dates from a total stranger just like that. I hated this, but I was going to look my best.

I got to the restaurant early. It was near a mall, and there were tons of people around. But I sat inside, checked my phone, and waited for my husband to arrive.

Suddenly, Lucas walked in, looking around the shop expectantly. That's when I jumped from my seat and faced him angrily.

"Martha? What are you doing here?" he asked, frowning.

"Me? What are you doing here? How dare you meet strange women on the internet and organize dates! I can't believe you would cheat on me because I'm sick! We took vows! In sickness and in health!" I ranted, getting more and more hysterical. The few people in the shop turned to us with curious expressions, ready to witness the drama.

"Martha! No! I would never do that!" he denied.

"I was the one who messaged you! You're lying to me! How could you?" I was no longer ranting. I was crying heavily, and it felt like a boulder was stuck in my chest.

"Martha, Martha! Sit down. You're pale! Please, sit down!" Lucas urged and wrapped his arms around me, so I had to comply. I cried into his shoulder while he caressed my hair. He always did that to calm me. How could my sweet husband cheat on me?

"Why?" I wailed.

"I'm not cheating on you, Martha," Lucas said quietly.

"What?"

"I would never do that, but you might not be happy about my actions," he continued solemnly.

"What's going on?"

Lucas reached into his pocket and produced… a pendant. The only heirloom I had ever gotten from my family. It had been passed down through generations, and now that everyone was gone, I treasured it.

"I was going to sell it. I know it's so expensive, and it'll help us pay for your surgery. I know you love it, but it's just an object, and your life is more important," my husband explained. I lifted my head from his shoulder and stared into his sad eyes. "I don't want to lose you, Martha."

Finally, the truth was out, and I smiled through the tears, hugging him until he couldn't breathe well. "Really? That's all you were doing?" I asked, still crying.

"Tons of people messaged me through private chats about the pendant. I had already met some interested people, but they balked at the price. I thought your message about was the same, so I agreed without question," he continued, making everything more straightforward.

We stayed quiet for a while afterward. "I can't sell it," I said.

"We have to. Your health – Your life is more important than this," Lucas insisted, looking at me with a serious expression this time.

"Ok… and I'm sorry for doubting you," I nodded, understanding that he was doing this out of love. My husband loved me. He was not cheating on me, and I was so happy about this revelation that I would agree with anything he said.

"It's fine," he laughed, breathless.

Eventually, Lucas found a buyer, and I had my surgery, which was mostly paid for with the proceeds after selling the pendant. I got better, and our family thrived afterward. I never suspected him of cheating ever again.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Trust your spouse to do the right thing. Martha suspected her husband because he was acting odd, but then she discovered the truth and realized she should've had more faith in him.
  • Your health is more important than any item in your house. Lucas was right to try to sell that pendant because saving Martha mattered more than keeping an heirloom.
