Vic O'Connor Is Lorde's Father Who Took Almost 30 Years to Propose to His Wife Sonja
When looking at the photos of Vic' Connor and Sonja Yelich exchanging vows on the beach in 2014, it is easy to assume that the older couple were merely renewing their vows. The less obvious answer is that it was Lorde's parents' first trip down the aisle.
Vic O'Connor and Sonja Yelich raised four children during their relationship shy of three decades, Angelo, India, Jerry, and Ella. The brood all bear the double-barrel last name Yelich-O'Connor. As a teen, the couple's superstar daughter lauded them for understanding her.
The Kiwi parents kept their pop star daughter grounded when she rose to fame while still in high school. The "Glory and Gore" singer created distinct personas; in her daily life, she's Ella, while she answers to her stage name, Lorde, professionally.

Vic O'Connor Wed His Partner of 30 Years on the Beach
In the opening bars of "Royals," a teen Lorde wrote, "I've never seen a diamond in the flesh / cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies." A year after the track's debut, she explained the significance of the lines; her parents were not legally married – yet.
The then 17-year-old was overjoyed to share the news of her parents' engagement which was almost 30 years in the making, tweeting that it was the "best day." O'Connor proposed to Yelich at Niagara Falls in the presence of their whole offspring in June 2014.
Their daughter Jerry captured the duo in their black rock concert T-shirts, accessorized with the sparkly diamond and the falls breaking in the background. Jerry played photographer again as the pair sealed their beach union with a smooch on the sunny morning of May 6, 2017.
O'Connor looked suave in a black suit with a white flower boutonniere and his signature dark shades, next to his wife in an elegant double-breasted black blazer and white silk top. Their children also wore dark colors, though Lorde shook it up in a black and white polka dot dress.
O'Connor and Yelich raised a self-aware daughter who could appreciate their efforts at discipline when she was 17.
The siblings flanked their newlywed folks as they cut the single-tier wedding cake. Well-wishers in Yelich comments congratulated the "amazing" family, while one quipped, "Keeping up with the O' Connors."
Vic O'Connor Makes His Wife Feel like the 'Luckiest' Person
Yelich gushed about her civil engineer husband and best mate on Valentine's Day 2018. The poet shared an image of them at 21 and 28, respectively, and listed all his best qualities:
"I'm the luckiest person in the world to have my Vic, that's for sure. Kindest, most caring, thoughtful, intelligent person I know (sic)."
His wife regularly praises O'Connor on her 27 000 strong Instagram account. One can only guess what Vixy, as his partner affectionally calls him, writes in response from behind his closed socials.
O'Connor Once Cried Watching His Daughter Lorde's Live Performance
With "Royals," Lorde was the first Kiwi solo act to top the US Billboard charts. The young songwriter also broke a 17-year drought for female artists taking the number-one spot on the Billboard Alternative chart in 2013. She is possibly the first teenager to have uttered:
"My parents are really onto it; they know what young people need."
O'Connor and Yelich raised a self-aware daughter who could appreciate their efforts at discipline when she was 17. While the singer was topping charts and selling out shows, her mum had the arduous task of taking her iPhone in the evenings so she could do homework and rest.
The patriarch of the Yelich-O'Connor clan cried openly, with his wife, from the audience when Lorde performed at the 2016 Brit Awards. The couple is supportive of their child's success emotionally and physically, flying around the world to watch her perform live.
