Kane Brown's Parents Are Not Together & He Was Abused by One of His Stepfathers
Kane Brown's parents didn't bring him up together; his mother shouldered the task mostly independently. As a child, the future singer was exposed to abuse, poverty, and racism.
He might be one of the musicians making it big in the industry, but Kane Brown's parents had a difficult past. He was raised in poverty in Tennessee and Georgia, moving around homes with his mother, Tabatha Michelle Brown. At one point, he also assisted his grandfather with milking cows.
Kane's background included dealing with the depression and bipolar disorder rampant in his family. He dealt with racism and had friends who experienced overdoses.
Kane's father landed in jail, a direction he could've taken, too. Things were very hard for him and his single parent, and during one interview, the country musician revealed they had periods where they didn't have a place to stay. They lived and slept in the car for two weeks at a time.
He admitted to having grown up with nothing and that he was happy to be able to support himself now. Despite having a tough upbringing, the musician still had positive things to say about his mother and other family members.
Kane Brown's Mom Was One of the Women Who Raised Him
Kane once confessed that three women raised him: his mother, grandmother, and aunt. Tabatha loved country music, and he grew up listening to all-female artists like Sugarland and Shania Twain. Speaking about his upbringing, Kane said the women did a "good job," adding:
"My mom was basically my dad, my nana was my mom."
The artist shared how awesome it was to be raised by women because he related to them. He felt it helped him adjust to the real world. In 2019, he released the video for his song "Good as You" and revealed it was a tribute to his grandmother and mother who raised him.
Kane also noted how he loved them immensely. His mother has her own social media presence, and during one interview, the country music singer revealed that he was supporting her.
How Kane Brown's Mother Has His Support
Tabatha has a Facebook account where she posts pictures of herself and updates about her life. In the profile section of the account, the star's mother said she has two sons, Kane and CJ, whom she loves dearly and is very proud of. She once worked at Amazon Fulfillment CHA-1.
Kane supports Tabatha and his grandmother, providing them with everything they need. He confirmed it in 2018 during an interview, revealing how he bought his mother a car for her birthday, and in an attempt to ease her depression when she was living in the basement of her father's house, he offered to get her an apartment.
Kane paid for the apartment and insurance for a year, so Tabatha wouldn't have to worry about it; he also put her on his payroll for a year. Since she was earning from him, he asked her to find something to do that would make her happy.
Kane's closeness to his mother is in contrast to his relationship with his father who was in prison for most of Kane's life. Here's what we know about Kane's father.
More about Kane Brown's Dad
In 1996, Kane's drummer father was incarcerated, and in 2018, he was still locked up. The artist once revealed that his father brags about him and how good he is at playing the drums. Kane would jokingly tell him he would hire him when he's released.
At age 25, the country singer revealed that he is biracial, something he didn't know until age seven or eight. The star, born to a white mom and father who is part black, said he always thought he was completely white until peers in school teased him about his skin color. Apart from his schoolmates, one of his stepfathers also had a negative impact on his life.
What We Know About Kane Brown's Abusive Stepfather
As if his tough background wasn't enough, one of Kane's stepfathers had abused him. The musician was beaten a lot by his stepfather when he was a child, and at one point, he punished him by shaving his head bald.
Kane also recalled being forced to bite and eat from a bar of soap, and to swallow the soap, among other bad experiences he endured under his stepfather's upbringing. Luckily, the artist was able to turn his life around for the better despite everything he went through.
