Bianca Belair and Her Husband Montez Ford Are Both Wrestlers: Inside Their Love Story
WWE couples are becoming much more common these days. One such couple is Bianca Belair and her husband, Montez Ford. The pair have been making waves in the wrestling circles since they got onto the scene about six years ago.
Belair and Ford have been a part of the WWE since 2016 and 2014, respectively. This was where they met while attending the Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida. Although there was a mutual attraction, they did not immediately start dating and had to overcome some unfortunate hurdles to get there.
Still, they eventually began their relationship and have not looked back ever since. They celebrated their fourth anniversary this year, and there has been some talk of kids in the future. But right now, they appear to be focused on their careers which have been successful and going from strength to strength.
The Couple Has Been Married since 2018
After about two years of dating, Belair and Ford tied the knot in 2018 in front of a modest number of attendees. Unfortunately, there is not much information surrounding the wedding. However, their employers, the WWE organization was on hand to congratulate them through an article on their website with the words:
If you’ve been following Bianca Belair and Montez Ford on social media, you already know that they’re the epitome of #CoupleGoals. Now, The EST of NXT and one-half of The Street Profits can add #MarriageGoals to their list of associated hashtags following their wedding earlier today.
In addition, a short video of the wedding festivities shared on Twitter by the couple's friend and fellow wrestler, Danielle Kamela, showed that people had a good time. No more so than the newlyweds, who can be seen dancing as they went down the aisle, presumably after saying their I Dos.
Bianca Belair and Montez Ford's Wrestling Careers
Montez Ford, whose real name is Kenneth Crawford, was
in Chicago on May 31, 1990. He grew up in North Carolina, where his athletic ability on the track made him a star. In high school, he also participated in the Junior Reserve Training Corps (JROTC).
After completing his high school diploma, the physically fit Ford enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served between 2008 and 2012. After his duty to the country ended, he joined the WWE. He was inspired to do so by his love for watching the shows on TV.
His favorite wrestlers are all-time greats such as Shawn Michaels, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. He submitted his photos to the organization's recruitment center, which approved his application. He made his debut in 2015 and has since won many belts, including being a three-time tag team champion.
His wife, on the other hand, uses her real name. Belair was born on April 9, 1989, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She grew up there and, like her husband, excelled in track and field while in high school. She attended three universities before she completed her first degree at the University of Tennessee.
After college, she attempted to make a career in CrossFit as a powerlifter and competitor but had to abandon her plans due to health complications. She then started working as a phone salesperson before joining WWE in 2016.
In WWE, the passionate Belair began her career on the NXT circuit and had tremendous success. That success resulted in her being promoted to the WWE Raw and SmackDown rosters, where she has since become a WWE champion. She won the Royal Rumble in 2021, becoming only the second black person to do so.
Ford Was a "Little Hesitant" When They First Met
Although the pair are now being hailed as couple goals, they almost did not happen. That was all down to Ford, who struggled to gather enough courage to show his intentions with Belair. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at their home in Orlando, the couple told the story of how they first got together.
Ford admitted that although he was interested in Belair, he was "a little hesitant." However, for Belair, she knew what she wanted right from the start, jokingly saying, "The first time I saw him, I was telling my friends, 'Ooh, that is a beautiful man. Keep him away from me,' and they did not."
In no time, the two found themselves in a friendship group, mainly because of their mutual friends, as they had not been acquainted. One night, the group went out for sushi, and Belair saw that as her opportunity to take the initiative. She would go up to Ford during the night out and try to get him to flirt with her.
To her disappointment, the beautiful man overlooked her advances. So, the beautiful woman eventually decided to give up on her pursuit. When she accepted defeat, courage finally found Ford and pushed him to open his mouth and say something nice to Belair.
His choice of words, "I like your makeup," is not the most incredible pick-up line, but it did the trick. Admittedly, that was the best he could think of at the time. Now that they were acquainted, Belair retook the initiative and put her number into his phone, but alas, it was the wrong number.
That situation caused a few awkward moments for both parties. On the one hand, Ford wondered why she was not replying to his texts, and on the other, Belair was in the dark about why he was not getting in touch. Nevertheless, things worked out well for the couple, who recently celebrated their fourth anniversary.
They are not the only married couple in WWE. Wrestling couples are becoming more common in recent years, perhaps due to the rise in recruitment of female wrestlers by the organization, which has brought male and female wrestlers together—for example, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch; The Undertaker and Michelle McCool; and Aleister Black and Zelina Vega.
