Molly Ringwald was only a child when she starred in a stage production of "Alice in Wonderland." Since then, she has built a career in the entertainment industry.

In 1984, she starred in "Sixteen Candles," followed by "The Breakfast Club" the year after. As her career flourished, she met Valery Lameignère, the man who would later win her heart.

Ringwald and Lameignère tied the knot in 1999, but they divorced on bad terms a few years after marriage. The actress also had claims against her husband that made headlines.

Valery Lameignère Is Passionate about Translation

Lameignère, a French novelist born around 1968, was two years older than Ringwald when they met. He is an author and artistic translator with several books under his name, specifically those translated into French.

Although he is dedicated to his field, Lameignère once worked in the entertainment industry as a production driver on the set of "Tattle Tale."

In 2002, Lameignère penned an article for the Hartford Courant where he shared the experience that made him pursue being a translator and his interest in the occupation.

According to Lameignère, he saw firsthand a comedian trying to be funny in a foreign language and knew all too well the embarrassment of failing to express one's self. Now a known translator, Lameignère has appreciated the craft more. He said:

"Untouchables of the publishing caste, poorly paid, and rarely named in book reviews, literary translators nevertheless pride themselves for being part of the 'chronophadous mission' of building bridges between languages and cultures."

When the article was published, Lameignère lived in Paris and New York. At that time, he was not yet divorced from his wife.

Molly Ringwald and Valery Lameignère's Life in Paris

In 1991, Ringwald relocated from the United States to Paris after a terrible audition experience. At that time, none of her films, following the three she made with director John Hughes left an impact on her career.

By 1995, she spoke French well enough to land a starring role in "Enfants de Salaud." However, the best thing moving to Paris brought her was meeting Lameignère. While their relationship flourished in Paris, Lameignère seemed to have disliked Hughes' gesture of sending Ringwald flowers.

Ringwald and Lameignère eventually tied the knot, although different news outlets reported varying dates of their wedding, with some saying they married in 1998 and others in 1999. People also reported that Ringwald was expecting her first child in 1998, but in reality, the actress and her first husband had no children.

Molly Ringwald and Valery Lameignère's Marriage Ended on a Bad Note

In December 2002, Ringwald filed for divorce from her husband, citing "cruel and inhuman treatment." The "Pretty in Pink" star sought no alimony or financial settlement from Lameignère. She also did not ask for possessions from their Bordeaux, France residence.

Nearly a year after filing for divorce, Molly Ringwald confirmed her pregnancy with her then-boyfriend, Panio Gianopoulos. Also a writer, Gianopoulos had been dating Ringwald for two years. However, she explicitly said she had no plans of marrying him.

The couple welcomed Mathilda Ereni Gianopoulos on October 22, 2003, four years before they tied the knot. As opposed to what Ringwald initially said, she married Gianopoulos and remains married to him.

In 2009, the duo welcomed twins, a son Roman Stylianos Gianopoulos and a daughter Adele Georgiana Gianopoulos.

Years later, Ringwald penned her own novel, which stars a pretentious French layabout. Readers claimed the character resembled her ex-husband, although Ringwald has denied such allegations.

It has been decades since Molly Ringwald first starred in "Sixteen Candles," and a lot has happened to her since. Still, she continues to pursue her career as an actress, recently starring in "Riverdale."
