Veteran actor Robert Wagner won his wife Jill St. John's heart after she was single for 14 years. In August 1971, she spoke frankly about her lifestyle and thriving career.

St. John said it was easy for people to envy her because of her good fortune. She only had terrific experiences at the time but still felt dissatisfied with her life.

She had had a few female friends back in the day and invited them over to a pool party one day. Before they even took a seat upon arrival, "great things started happening," she stated. She received flowers from a lover, another love interest called, and her agent phoned her about her next gig. The ladies all turned to her and said, "We hate you."

"It's difficult not to be jealous of me. I am so incredibly lucky, and so many wonderful, nifty, marvelous things happen to me," said the former Bond girl at the time.

St. John later married Wagner in the '90s, but their romance had already had a friendship foundation. The couple became friends in the 1960s when they crossed paths as young actors at Fox Studios.

Today, Wagner and St. John have one of Hollywood's most desirable marriages, and a friend of the couple attested to this in April 2022:

"It's a cliché, but their love has stood the test of time."

The lovebirds began dating in 1982 and were together for eight years before deciding to walk down the aisle on May 26, 1990. However, they never had kids together, but Wagner has children of his own from previous marriages, and St. John became their stepmother.

The now-retired actress is deemed super intelligent, and despite being known for her quick wit onscreen, she reportedly has an IQ of 162.

Initially, St. John did not want to marry Wagner and revealed in October 1983 that committing was the last thing on her mind. She was content with their relationship as it were:

"I'm not ready for a commitment. I have a wonderful job, a beautiful home, a great life, and a terrific guy I'm with most of the time. I've been single for 14 years, and there's no reason to make any major changes right now."

Before she and Wagner became a couple, he was married to iconic actress Natalie Wood, who tragically drowned off the coast of Catalina Island in November 1981. St. John's pal later revealed that the star "was saddened" by Natalie's passing and, as such, "reached out and sent Robert a nice note and flowers."

Within two months, Wagner and St. John met at a party hosted by a mutual friend. She empathized with his loss because she, too, had lost her former husband, race car driver Lance Reventlow, in a tragic plane crash in 1972. St. John said she and her ex-spouse remained cordial until his passing.

Meanwhile, she had an estranged relationship with Wagner's sister-in-law, Lana Wood. Like her, Lana is also a former Bond girl, and they reunited in October 1999 for a photoshoot reportedly vetoed by Wagner, whom she accused of killing her sister without proof.

However, Lana refused to be photographed with St. John and cried. A publicist relater disclosed that it was apparent that Natalie's sister did not want to take a picture with her co-star. Moreover, the two ladies dated the same man but in different periods.

While filming the movie, "Diamonds Are Forever," Lana had a secret love affair with her co-star, Sean Connery. At the time, there were reports that he was also romantically involved with St. John, which created a lifelong feud between the two Hollywood women.

Wagner & St. John's Successful Marriage

Despite the drama, St. John found her happy ever after with Wagner and his three daughters. The "Hart to Hart" alum's oldest child is Katie Wagner, whom he welcomed with his second wife, Marion Marshall.

Wagner shares his youngest daughter, Courtney Wagner, with his first wife, Natalie – whom he married twice, from 1957 to 1962 – and from 1972 to 1981. He is also a dad to Natalie's daughter from her past relationship with the producer, Richard Gregson, Natasha Gregson Wagner. Following Natalie's sudden death, Wagner raised her child with St. John.

Natasha opened up about her mother's death in 2016 and said that when she passed, she and her half-sister were still young, and they required her warmth:

"She left when I was 11 and my sister (Courtney) was 7, and we needed her."

Meanwhile, their dad has since moved on with St. John, creating a life together. Her presence in their lives came at a time when they all needed her the most.

When St. John turned 81 in August 2021, Wagner marked her milestone on social media alongside images of the duo from back in the day. "Happy 81st Birthday to my beautiful, incredible wife," he wrote alongside a photo of the smiling golden couple.

The "It Takes a Thief" star commemorated St. John's 82nd birthday online again in August 2022 and posted throwback pictures of the pair beaming. The two are so close that they finish each other's sentences.

St. John and Wagner also wear matching clothes. In April 2013, the pair were spotted donning coordinating outfits for a lunch date in Beverly Hills. They wore white tops and khaki trousers for the outing.

Wagner revealed in October 2008 that his nickname for his wife is "Magic." Even though he is now married to the California native, he still honors his late wife, Natalie, and former spouse, Marshall, who also passed away. It shows that St. John is wise and has accepted that they are a blended family that loves each other.

In June 2022, Wagner wished Marshall "a happy heavenly birthday" on Instagram and said, "she was a wonderful woman who gave me the most precious gift, my daughter Katie." He added that though their union ended, they remained close until she died in September 2018.

Wagner also paid homage to Natalie in December 2022, alongside a photo of the pair on their wedding day. "Natalie was my girl, and then she was my wife. Happy 65th anniversary, Nat. More than love," he captioned his post.

In May 2009, the father of three spoke candidly about how Natalie's death affected him. He said they had a "tremendous relationship, and we were very happy," adding that he managed to move on thanks to his kids and then-friend, St. John:

"When I lost her, I was devastated, and I didn't think I was going to be able to go on."

The Couple Lives an Adventurous Life in Aspen

Wagner has since built a new life with his family in Aspen, Colorado. He and St. John reside on a 7 ½ acres property with mountain views and trees. There are no other houses around the couple's home.

The Hollywood duo have lived in Aspen since 1995 and became full-time residents in 2007. Wagner penned in his autobiography that he desires to be buried there.

He revealed many kids were laid to rest there and explained the cemetery is "in the middle of a glade of aspen and birch trees. […] As soon as someone is laid to rest, the land is allowed to return to its natural state. It’s pure and peaceful."

Meanwhile, his spouse has since become a housewife. St. John has spent much of her free time up the slopes in Aspen and loves being outdoors. Moreover, she has a cookbook that was published in 1987. The couple enjoys skiing, playing golf, and horseback riding together.

When asked what the most extraordinary thing about Aspen is, St. John shared that the place contributed to her growth, and she "learned to live in gratitude" there. The "Northpole" alum quit acting because she was bored but has occasionally returned to the big screen.
