Daniel Day-Lewis' Wife and Children: All We Know about the Oscar-Winning Actor's Family Life
Daniel Day-Lewis' wife and children became the legendary actor's primary focus after his closing curtain performance in "Phantom Thread" in 2017. After the two giants in the film industry married, they welcomed two sons, one of whom has followed in their footsteps.
With 30 films and TV shows under his belt, 95 nominations and 147 awards, and a 2014 knighthood at Buckingham Palace, Daniel has proven himself to be one of the greatest actors of his generation and a tough act to follow.
Born in London, England, Daniel's legacy in Hollywood almost never came to be, as he was torn between two passions as a young man. Fortunately for film fans worldwide, he chose the art of acting– which led to how he met his wife and rubbed off on his children.

Daniel Day-Lewis Is Married to Rebecca Miller, a Director and the Daughter of Famous Playwright Arthur Miller
Daniel's acting talent is something he shares with his wife, Rebecca Miller, who was born to famous American playwright Arthur Miller and Austrian photographer Inge Morath.
With a few acting credits to her name, Rebecca also dabbled as a novelist but chose to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. She directed her first film in 1995 before taking a break until 2002.

As one of a few female directors during her time, Rebecca had difficulty cementing herself as a female director and came to dislike the term. She said:
"I don't like it when people say: 'We really want to get a female director for this movie.' Really? So the only prerequisite is ovaries, then?"
Daniel Day-Lewis and Rebecca Miller Met during Filming for 'The Crucible'
As two greats in the film industry, it was seemingly written in the stars that Rebecca and Daniel met on a movie set. He was starring in Rebecca's father's 1996 film adaptation of his book, "The Crucible." However, she was not directly involved in the film's production.

In 2005, Daniel and Rebecca also became colleagues when he starred in "The Ballad of Jack and Rose," a film written and produced by his wife. During an interview, Rebecca admitted that she and Daniel occasionally butted heads but were able to work out their creative differences in the end.
Following Daniel's first attempt at retirement, the couple split their lives between America and Ireland, which Rebecca revealed offered them a sense of normalcy. In 2017, Daniel officially retired and said:
"I didn't want to get sucked back into another project. All my life, I've mouthed off about how I should stop acting, and I don't know why it was different this time, but the impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion. It was something I had to do."

Daniel is a father to three sons, including two he shares with Rebecca, who shared that she never thought she would get married or have children before she met her husband.
Their eldest son, Ronan Cal-Day Lewis, was born in 1998, and their youngest, Cashel Blake Day-Lewis, was born in 2002. Rebecca and Daniel relocated to the States for their sons' education. However, they always knew they would strive to live a balanced life between the two countries.
The storyteller and director said her writing improved after having her children, as she became more seasoned when it came to life. It was also a way to stay playful, as she shared:
"I love having kids because I get to be a child with them."

Like his mother and Quentin Tarantino, Ronan pursued a career as a filmmaker and an artist after obtaining a B.A. in Fine Arts from Harvard. With over three thousand followers on Instagram at the time of writing, he regularly took to social media to share his art pieces.
Cashel also inherited the family's artistic gene, although it came in the form of music for him. He also took to social media to share his love for music and documented his life as a composer and a traditional Irish fiddle player.
