If the news of David Muir's partner breaks one day, it won't come from his nightly show on ABC or his popular social media platforms. Alas, the anchor is highly private about his romantic life.

David Muir has never indicated if he has ever been in a romantic relationship. A few women in his circle, generally from work, appear to be very close with the journalist who cracked the list of People's Sexiest Men of 2014.

With no partner by his side, one journalist jokingly cast herself in the role as his girlfriend in a tongue-in-cheek article. Here's what we know about the New York singleton's personal life.

David Is a Close Friend of Kelly Ripa

Muir has been friends with Kelly Ripa since his early days at ABC's "World News Tonight." After seeing the then-unknown journalist's report on ABC, the "Live with Kelly and Ryan" host sent him an internal email along the lines of, "Dude, you looked amazing tonight."

He got a special shootout in the acknowledgments of her book, "Live Wire," where she reportedly called him her "backbone and moral compass." She is married to actor and sometimes co-host Mark Consuelos. In Ripa's friendship circle, she's known as the one to bake birthday cakes.

In a segment on her morning show in 2017, she revealed that Muir had hinted that he hadn't gotten a cake from her yet, humbling asking for a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. The hostess made him a butter cake with a double chocolate layer frosting from a Martha Stewart cookbook.

The "20/20" presenter was said to be friendly with fellow ABC host Amy Robach, having spent time on-screen and outside the studio. When news broke that Robach and co-host T.J Holmes are having an affair, he reportedly said he "wants no part" in the salacious scandal.

The anchor has the love of more than half a million on Instagram who follows him for easy-on-the-eye selfies.

The newsman's reluctance to talk about his romantic life has led some to make up their own narratives in which he prefers male romantic partners. Just like there is no evidence of him having ever been in a relationship with a woman, there's no proof to suggest he is gay.

Kate Dries Posted a Blog Calling David Muir Her "Boyfriend"

Journalist Kate Dries wrote a satirical piece for Jezebel, "Report Indicates My Boyfriend David Muir Is a 'Monster,'" in September 2015.

She gently let down fans in the comment section, which also to be the journalist's girlfriend, by telling them that breakups are complex, but "David speaks of you fondly." The Things speculated that the Jezebel satirist is friends with the "World News Tonight" anchor and was in Europe with him.

The tabloid report that prompted Dries' tongue-in-cheek blog post claimed that ABC staffers nicknamed him "Anchor Monster" over his tantrum that Lester Holt beat in the ratings.

His Social Media Doesn't Indicate Any Romance Now

The anchor has the love of more than half a million followers on Instagram for his easy-on-the-eye selfies, updates on his family, his emotive dog, and snippets on his "World News Tonight" coverage.

Axel, a German shorthaired pointer, came into Muir's life sometime in mid-2019 as a puppy. The large dog is the primary source of content on his Insta grid. Feeling philosophical at the end of 2020, he shared an image of his pooch he captioned, "Best thing about 2020 is that he had no idea it was 2020. He just grew. We all did."

After waiting a year for her commencement, Muir was by his niece's side when she graduated from Cornell University. In a September 2021 post, he shared the mood of the day, "Some proud parents and a proud uncle in there."

He spends much of his time with his family, especially his sister and her kids, sharing many precious moments with them online.
