Joseph Burkett Is an Army Veteran and Lara Logan's Husband – Everything We Know about Him

Famous journalist Lara Logan is married to Joseph Burkett, a former military man. The couple's relationship became prominent in 2008 while stationed in Iraq, and both were still married to other people at the time.

While Logan, a journalist, was covering the Iraq War, Burkett was also in the country working for the United States military. It's unclear whether he was still a soldier at the time or a defense contractor; even Logan was not sure what he did, referring to his work as "secretive."

The couple married in 2008, settling in the capital, Washington D.C., before relocating to Texas. They have welcomed two children, a boy, and a girl, since 2008, in addition to raising Burkett's daughter from his previous marriage.

Joseph Burkett Had a Very Secretive Job

Burkett has extensive military experience within the U.S. army. He was first enrolled at the Marine Military Academy for his high school studies. The private boarding military school helped develop young boys of grades 7 - 12 into morally strong, well-disciplined, responsible leaders. He graduated from the institution in 1991.

Burkett later joined the American defense forces, where he retired with the rank of Army master sergeant. According to his Facebook profile, he worked in the army's intelligence department called INSCOM. Logan noted, "I knew him for about six years before they got together. He had a very secretive job, and I always respected that."

Burkett also worked as a non-commissioned officer at the Texas National Guard. In addition to his military experience, he listed that he attained tertiary education at Pierce College, in the class of 1995, and at The University of Texas at Austin.

Joseph Burkett and Lara Logan Were Married to Other People When They First Met

The beginning of Logan and Burkett's relationship was filled with controversy amid claims of seduction and infidelity. While the pair were married to different people then, their marriages were at different stages. Logan's marriage to Jason Siemon, a professional basketball player, was nearing its end.

However, although there have been claims that Burkett's marriage to Kimberly Burkett was at a similar stage, it remains debatable. In the aftermath of the extra-marital affair coming to light, Kimberly accused Logan of seducing her husband. Logan denied this, claiming she only hooked up with Burkett when his marriage had ended.

Both couples were divorced in 2008. Logan's legal separation from Siemon was less dramatic when compared to that of the Burkett, who had a custody battle of their child to add to the agenda. After Kimberly filed for divorce in January 2008, the process was concluded eight months later. The details were not made public.

Joseph Burkett Has 3 Children, but Only 2 with Lara Logan

By the time Burkett and Kimberly's divorce proceedings concluded, Burkett and Lara Logan, who recently worked for Fox News alongside Bret Baier, were already expecting their first child. In December 2008, they welcomed their first child, Joe.

The family initially settled in Washington, D.C. but were forced to relocate to a small town in Texas for two reasons. One, to be closer to Burkett's family, and two, the move would help her spend more time with her son, who had been diagnosed with severe learning disabilities, including dyscalculia, dyslexia, and dysgraphia.

Logan commented on the situation, saying, "There is a window that you get to unlock that code, and this is now. I really believe in being there for my kids, and I really believe that I can help Joe learn how to read and write."

Joe's younger sister, Lola, was born a year later. However, they are a family of five as the couple also raised Ashley, Burkett's daughter from his previous marriage to Kimberly. Ashley is roughly four years older than Joe.
