Irish actor Colin Farrell is a household name in Hollywood for his numerous blockbuster films. He recently bagged the Best Actor award at the 2023 Golden Globes for his outstanding performance in the 2022 film, "The Banshees of Inisherin."

While Colin's acting career gives him a sense of accomplishment and excitement, his two charming sons, James and Henry Farrell, hold a more special place in his heart. The proud dad cherishes and takes great pride in them.

Henry Tadeuz Farrell is Colin Farrell’s only child from his relationship with Alicja Bachleda

In 2008, Colin first met Polish actress Alicja Bachelda while filming "Ondine," and the two soon began dating. The couple announced they were expecting a child by September of the following year.

In a People interview, Colin said that becoming a father made him a "very excited man" and that he looked forward to every part of being a parent. He said:

"Everything. The whole thing. I will take it as it comes. Even changing dirty diapers."

In October 2009, Colin and Alicja welcomed their son, Henry Tadeusz Farrell, in Los Angeles. At the young age of six months, Alicja gushed about her son's ability to stand and smile. At the time, Alicja described their little son as a "lovely baby."

While Henry is the couple's first child, the boy is already Colin's second son. The Irish actor is also a dad to James Padraig Farrell, born in 2003 and whose mother is his former girlfriend, model Kim Bordenave. Sadly, James was born with Angelman's disease, a rare genetic condition.

The disease causes developmental delays affecting speech and mobility, and individuals with the said disorder are frequently misdiagnosed as having autism or Down syndrome.

In 2017, Colin spoke candidly about raising a child with special needs. He said it could be challenging and emotionally taxing, but the love and resilience he gained from it were like a healing stitch for his heart's wounds.

Before James turned 18, Colin and Kim applied to be their son's co-conservators. The petition would allow them to manage James' personal and health-related decisions even after he became an adult.

Just as Colin is affectionate towards James, he also has strong feelings about being a father to Henry, who has entered his teenage years and looks very similar to him.

Despite loving being a father, Colin's relationship with Alicja fell apart in the middle of 2010, and the two quietly separated without addressing the reasons for their breakup.

Henry Tadeuz Is His Father's Biggest Critic, along with His Brother James

While Henry and Colin share remarkable features such as their smiles, the latter disclosed that there were also less enjoyable moments between them.

Colin said his two sons are his "true legacy."

In 2022, Colin revealed to host Ellen DeGeneres that Henry had become his fashion critic. Ellen showed a picture of Colin in short shorts while jogging and mentioned that the shorts are now trendy.

However, Colin acknowledged that he was unaware of the skimpy shorts as a stylish trend, told the TV presenter that Henry disapproved of it and that his son was "mortified." He remembered his son pleading with him not to wear revealing shorts in public. He recalled:

"He says, 'Please Dad, do not wear the short shorts.' And I tell him, 'They feel good.' It's not a fashion thing."

Aside from exhibiting his strict demeanor, Henry and his older brother James seemed unbothered by their father's various films, most of which were intended for mature audiences.

The father of two jokingly revealed that he kept his movies out of reach from his sons, but despite his efforts, they never showed any interest in them. Colin said:

"I wish I had a choice. They don't want to [watch]!"

Even though his teenage sons showed their unique personalities, Colin consistently placed their well-being as a top priority, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, he stressed the importance of checking their emotional well-being. Despite his kids' initial pushback, Colin explained that he enjoyed open discussions about their emotions, recognizing the need for balance.

Colin expressed sadness at being away from his sons, James and Henry, for six months while working. He also spoke of his sons' reactions when he took a lengthy break from work.

When he returned home, Colin said he would be very affectionate towards his sons, to the point where they might become "sick" of him. He reflected on his role as a working father and noted that it was tough for all of them.

Nevertheless, Colin viewed his responsibilities as a father of two and a career-oriented man as opportunities for personal growth and exploration.

Colin Farrell Once Confessed Henry and James Are His True Legacy

In a recent Vanity Fair interview alongside actress Emma Thompson, Colin Farrell expressed his thoughts on his legacy and work, claiming he does not consider himself a legacy.

Colin said his two sons are his "true legacy." He spoke about raising his children, one for 19 years and the other for 13 years, and referred to them as gifts of his life.

Colin's recent win of the Best Actor award for "The Banshees of Inisherin" at the Golden Globe Awards marks his second victory, the first being in 2009 for "In Bruges."

At the end of his acceptance speech, the Dublin-born actor thanked his kids, who watched the ceremony from home, and stated they were "the loves of my life."
