Gulliver Lewis is the youngest child of renowned actors Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory. Gulliver was only a teen when his mother, at 52, died in April 2021 after suffering from breast cancer.

Amid their busy acting careers, Gulliver's parents devoted themselves tirelessly to raising him and his sister in a way suitable for their needs, ensuring they received ample attention and care.

In a 2015 interview with The Telegraph, Helen said she was worried about a generation of kids who don't know how to communicate with their parents about their feelings and instead turn to the internet. In their household, she said:

"Damian and I often sit down with Manon and Gully and a dictionary and a thesaurus and encourage them to write. When they say they want to look something up on a computer, we say no. We want them to have the space to think, you see."

Gulliver Lewis Had a TV Watching Schedule

Gulliver was born on November 2, 2007, four months after his parents' wedding. He has an older sister named Manon McCrory-Lewis, whom their parents welcomed on September 8, 2006.

Helen and Damian Lewis were both raised in close-knit families. They modeled their children's upbringing after their own: traditional. One of the old-fashioned ways the couple did for their kids was to listen to old music.

The power couple had also set limits on their children's use of electronics and television. However, they allow Gulliver and his sibling to have 10 minutes of computer time on the weekends.

In addition to limiting how much time Gulliver spent in front of the TV, Gulliver's mother had a unique view of intelligence. In a 2013 interview with The Guardian, Helen shared that she wonders why people share their hopes that her kids are "bright," as intelligence and academic success can be a "stumbling block" as "exceptionally intelligent are often lonely."

As a mother of two young children, she found it strange that some parents wanted their kids to excel academically. She felt that having exceptional intelligence could lead to loneliness.

Although Gulliver and Manon were still too young to totally comprehend Helen and Damian's professions, the kids enjoyed imaginative play at home, pretending to be their favorite movie characters.
