In an Instagram post in August 2022, Malone opened up about her sexual orientation and described herself as pansexual.

Lorenzo later had his own band, immersed himself in photography, and now dabbles in permaculture farming alongside his artistic pursuits. Sadly, his relationship with Malone foundered and the two announced the end of their engagement in February 2019.

After her breakup with Lorenzo, Malone was in a relationship with Alex Ebert, lead singer and songwriter for successful folk rock band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, known for his philosophical leanings.

In an Instagram post in August 2022, Malone opened up about her sexual orientation and described herself as pansexual. She spoke about growing up in an accepting family in an interview, saying:

"My sister is queer and I grew up with two moms who were lovers and then they split."

The actress revealed that she had always felt conflicted, like "a heterosexual man in a woman’s body." Coming out as a pansexual finally allowed her to feel at peace with herself.
