Derek Carr's Kids – Inside the Sorrows and Joys of His Fatherhood
Derek Carr's kids have been the light of the NFL quarterback's life, but the beginning of his fatherhood came with heart-wrenching difficulties. With faith and his wife's support, he overcame the challenges and expanded his family, completing it with a surprise baby girl.
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is the proud father of three sons and a baby girl. He and his wife began expanding their family about a year after marrying, with Derek's career gradually rising to success.
However, when his first son was born, things took a turn for the worst for the Carr family. A somewhat rare medical condition threatened to take the boy's life, but through faith and the help of dedicated medical professionals, he pulled through.
Derek now leads a fulfilling and happy life with his kids, most of whom took a keen interest in sports. In the same way that Derek shows up for their sporting events, the youngsters and their mom can also be seen supporting their dad during his games.
Derek Carr Experienced a Difficult Time after the Birth of His First Child
Derek married Heather Neel in 2012, and they welcomed their son, Dallas Carr, on August 5, 2013; however, they couldn't take him home immediately. Dallas had arrived eight days before his due date with a birth abnormality that affected 1-in-500 American infants.
He had intestinal malrotation, making it difficult for anything to pass through his system. The doctors told his parents that had he arrived on his due date, he wouldn't have survived. Dallas then underwent his first emergency surgery at Valley Children's Hospital just hours after his birth.
There were two more operations he needed before he began full recovery. Now, at nine years old, he's a strong older brother who enjoys spending time with his brothers and sister. His dad also began supporting the hospital at which he was treated as one of the institution's donors.
The Arrival of a Daughter Was Unexpected for Derek Carr and His Wife
After Dallas, Derek and his wife welcomed a second baby boy, Deker Luke Carr, on March 16, 2016. Three years later, on May 16, 2019, Deakon Derek Carr joined the family, weighing nine pounds and six ounces.
As Heather's Instagram page indicated, Derek enjoys playing golf with his sons, and the boys have been actively engaging in sports. She and Derek attended one of their ice hockey matches last March. She also shared a photo of them wearing football uniforms the year before in October.
The year Deakon was born, the Carrs moved to Las Vegas, where they conceived their youngest child, Brooklyn. Heather described their only daughter as a "surprise blessing," as they hadn't planned to have her. She was born on November 30, 2020.
Derek Carr's Children Are by His Side at Significant Moments
Apart from significant moments, Derek ensures he always has time to play or hang out with his kids, even after a long day's work. And in turn, they offer their support for their dad's impressive milestones.
The little ones were present when their dad signed a $121.5 million three-year extension contract with the Raiders in April 2022. Speaking about his achievement, Derek said he'd only ever wanted to be a Raider.
He hoped his other teammates, including Davante Adams (married to Devanne Villarreal), would also remain longer in the team. After that, Dallas, Deker, Deakon, and Brooklyn kept attending their dad's games.
In August last year, they donned matching Raiders t-shirts as they smiled for a photo with the NFL star and his wife. Months later, the Carrs visited Derek's alma mater, Fresno State University, all sporting Fresno State Bulldogs jerseys to enjoy a match.
