Julie Andrews, the actress who played Mary Poppins in 1964 classic of the same name was 87, in March 2023, often still gets praised for her beauty at her elderly age. The legendary star was now a widow with a large blended family.

In 2015, Andrews confessed that she met Blake Edwards, ten years before their 1969 marriage. At the time, they'd met outside a therapist's office for the first time and spoke briefly to each other while in their individual cars.

The star said the their initial meeting was "corny," and Blake was going one way and she the other. The director rolled down his window after smiling at the actress a few times and asked her if she was going where he'd just come from.

The "Pink Panther" movies director recalled their first interaction differently described their meeting as "wonderfully Hollywood." However, it had taken him a while to find the courage to speak to the actress.

Blake recalled how they'd stop in the middle lane on Beverly Hills' Sunset Boulevard while waiting for traffic and he'd look over at her. That happened for two or three mornings a week until he greeted her.

The "Breakfast at Tiffany's" director and Andrews had both divorced their first spouses in 1967. He was thirteen years older than her and born in Oklahoma, making them an unlikely pair, but soon after their first decent interaction they started dating.

When they married, they blended their families with the actress going into the union with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton and the director added his children, Geoffrey and Jennifer. In 1974, the couple adopted Amy and the following year Joanna was welcomed.

Besides being parents, the duo also got to work together in 1979's "10," 1982's "S.O.B.," and 1982's "Victor/Victoria." In the late 1970s, the family took a break from Hollywood and went to Switzerland, with Blake noting how restorative to the souls that was.

He worked through his demons by writing and created some of his wife's greatest. The director worried about his wife being stuck with playing cheerful characters, sadly, in 2010 he died after suffering from pneumonia.

In 2015, Andrews confessed to struggling with the loss of her husband despite it being five years since his passing. The actress said what made their marriage successful was taking it a day at a time, and 41 years later they were still together, with her adding:

"We were married 41 years and it was a love story, it was."

"The Sound of Music" star admitted to still dealing dealing with Blake's death at age 88. Andrews shared how she felt he was still with her in a way and that she'd always carry the love they had, before sharing:

"There are days when it's perfectly wonderful and I am myself and then it's suddenly—sock you in the middle of your gut and you think 'ah God I wish he were here.'"

Blake's widow once revealed that one of their secrets to a long-lasting marriage was having a good sense of humor and laughing a lot. The star recalled how the director once told her that the minute he saw her laughing while watching outtakes he'd shown her, he'd known she was the woman for him!

In 2023, Andrews was closer to 90 and not as keen for public appearances, so it was a delight for fans when she attended a premiere in support of an old friend. The star might've aged, but she still retained her beauty!

On March 2, 2023, Andrews made a rare red carpet appearance in Los Angeles in support of her friend, Carol Burnett. At the time, the actress was attending the premiere of the television special, “Carol Burnett: 90 Years Of Laughter + Love," which would air on April 26, 2023.

On a Facebook article about the event, which featured a photo of the two stars one fan confessed how they'd "always loved" Burnett and that she and Andrews looked "amazing." A second person thought the women looked "beautiful."

Someone else shared that the women were "lovely" and looked "great," while another fan thought the two ladies were "beautiful." The premiere was set to celebrate Burnett's upcoming 90th birthday.

Andrews attended the two hour taping for the special which was filmed at Avalon Hollywood & Bardo with the air date being Burnett's actual birthday. it was quite obvious that the two legendary stars had chemistry as they posed together for photos on the red carpet.

The duo smiled and laughed, seemingly not having aged much, with Andrews dressed in black pants, matching shoes, and a matching blazer that featured white specks. The star also had a white shirt underneath, while Burnett also went with similar black flat shoes.

The comedian wore black pants and a top, plus a pink blazer with pink and black detailing. The two stars had an over six decade history of being colleagues and friends, with them starring together in the early 1960s on "The Garry Moore Show."

Both children seemed to have inherited their iconic grandmother's [Julie Andrews] good looks.

While Andrews still had a lot to celebrate, in 1997 she lost her singing voice after going for an operation to remove a vocal chord cyst. The actress became depressed, feeling like she'd lost her identity, but more blessings were on the way.

The voice loss coincided with her and her daughter, Emma, being asked to write children's books. In her mid-60s, the star was staring a new career that was a lovely surprise, but she still missed singing.

By October 2022, Andrews and her daughter had written almost three dozen books! The actress loved sharing their work on her Instagram account and in February 2023, she announced their latest book, "The Enchanted Symphony," which would be released in September.

Besides being an actress, comedian, former singer, and writer, Andrews was also a grandmother to five grandchildren in early 2023! In August 2022, Emma celebrated her daughter, Hope's 19th birthday with several Instagram images.

The actress's other grandchild from her daughter was a grandson who appeared in a 2022 New Year post shared by his mother. Both children seemed to have inherited their iconic grandmother's good looks.

Showing what a wonderful and caring parent she was, Andrews once said, “If my kids are unhappy, I can’t relax or be happy at all.” In 2019, it was revealed that lived on Long Island, New York.
