Actor Scott Baio has a longtime love story with his wife of 15 years. Despite initially relishing his life as a bachelor, the actor proved his love was true and defended his wife from "targeted hate" in a public scandal. The actor experienced the "worst time" of his life after losing his baby and an alarming diagnosis of his surviving daughter.

"Happy Days" actor Scott Baio rose to fame after appearing in numerous films and sitcoms since he launched his career in the '70s. His most recognized roles include playing Chachi Arcola in "Happy Days" and its spin-off, "Joanie Loves Chachi."

He also made a name for himself in the industry after appearing as Charles in "Charles in Charge," Dr. Jack Stewart in "Diagnosis: Murder," Bugsy in the 1976 gangster musical comedy "Bugsy Malone," and in recent years, as dad David Hobbs in the Nickelodeon sitcom, "See Dad Run."

Baio also guest-starred in several films such as, "The Nanny," "Veronica's Closet," and "Full House." With his fame, however, came another trait he rode on for years. He became a womanizer.

The former teen heartthrob had many relationships during his eligible bachelor days. The most notable ones being with the glamorous Pamela Anderson, models, Playboy playmates, and other celebrities, including Erin Moran, Denise Richards, and Nicollette Sheridan.

Despite his numerous romantic entanglements, the 62-year-old actor could never commit to one woman, and even when he came close after proposing to Pamela Anderson, the engagement did not last long. Explaining why he became a womanizer, Baio shared that he never did drugs and never took alcohol due to his low tolerance to it, so his vice became women.

He confessed that his lifestyle crippled him, and despite the freedom of doing it because he could, it also made him averse to committing to one woman. However, that would soon change.

In 2007, he agreed to star in the reality show "Scott Baio is 45 and Single," where he confronted some of his ex-girlfriends to understand why he was such a commitment-phobe. Looking back on all the women he had hurt and his mother's insistent requests for grandkids, Baio had a change of heart.

The "Courting Mom and Dad" actor eventually reconnected with a former girlfriend, Renee Sloan, whom he dated in the late 90s and had remained friends with. The two dated for a while before tying the knot in a rooftop ceremony in Los Angeles in 2007.

For a man who had spent his life running away from the commitment bug, Baio soon turned his life around, and inspired by his parent's marriage of 53 years (at the time), he decided he would commit only to Sloan for the rest of his life. He praised her, saying:

The Worst Time of Baio’s Life — His Daughter’s Life-Threatening Diagnosis

At the time of their wedding in 2007, Baio and Sloan had just welcomed a new baby girl named Bailey DeLuca Baio. Despite her birth story being filled with joy, it also brought some sadness. The pair would later reveal that they were initially pregnant with twins. However, only one baby made it out alive.

Speaking about it for the first time, Sloan disclosed that they lost one baby at 11 weeks. Despite the loss, the family which includes Sloan's older daughter from a previous relationship was happy to welcome the new addition to the family.

Sadly, more challenges awaited the new parents. A day after they brought home their baby from the hospital, Baio and Sloan were hit with the news that their daughter had tested positive for a potentially fatal disorder.

Sloan revealed that the pediatrician asked them to bring their daughter back to the hospital for more tests. The results showed the baby might have a metabolic disorder that could lead to seizures and comas and potentially cause death.

The parents were torn apart. They had barely enjoyed their new baby, and now, they had to deal with a potentially deadly disorder. Baio said it was a tough time for him seeing babies during holidays and even at their wedding, knowing all too well that their baby's life hung in the balance. He admitted:

"It was the worst time of my life."

Even though Bailey got a clean bill of health only months later, Baio admits that the experience changed his perspective on so many things. He recalls sleeping with his baby days before Christmas and having this dream-like revelation that the baby they lost had glutaric acidemia type 1 (GA-1), and that's why she did not survive.

He interpreted the "dream" to mean that Bailey had to go through a health scare, perhaps for them as parents to understand what happened to their other baby.

With that revelation, Sloan and Baio no longer tortured themselves with questions of why they lost their baby. While their daughter's health scare was harrowing for them, finding out about the GA-1 provided closure for them.

The experience also helped the actor prioritize the essential things in life. He admitted that sometimes he was guilty of losing track of things. However, after his daughter's health scare, he knows what matters most, and he says he thanks God almost every half-hour that his baby is okay.

After enduring months of uncertainty, Baio said he was not ready to be a parent again, admitting that one child was enough for him. Asked if he would ever consider making Bailey a big sister, he said:

"Definitely not. We had a tough time with that pregnancy. So, no. One is enough!"

How the Actor Publicly Defended His Beloved Wife, Renee

When Baio vowed to be with his wife through thick and thin when they wed in 2007, he meant every word of it. His vows were tested in 2020 after Sloan came under fire for making insensitive comments about the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

After the tragedy in 2012, Sloan and Baio took to Twitter to express their views, encouraging the theory that the Sandy Hook parents were actors in 2017.

Baio, who's known for his significant social media presence and conservative views, suggested in August of the same year that the Sandy Hook parents were actors.

He insinuated that the mother of Vicki Soto, one of the teachers who was a victim of the tragedy, and the mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed during the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, were portrayed by the same actress. This, in simpler terms, implied that the Sandy Hook incident was either faked or government-orchestrated.

While Baio withdrew his comments and apologized, Sloan told the mother of one of the Sandy Hook victims that maybe their children were in a better place, a statement that caused a widespread backlash on social media at the time.

In 2021, the controversy resurfaced after singer Richard Marx got into a Twitter spat with Sloan. However, Baio was quick to defend his wife from the "targeted hate" noting that she was suffering from a severe illness. He lashed back at Marx:

"Pretty low to target my wife. Do you feel better now?"

He has always been by his wife's side over the years and supported her, even when she was diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. In 2015, they revealed that Sloan had been diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor.

Five years earlier, in 2010, she was diagnosed with 0-1 early breast cancer and underwent several lumpectomies, all of which came back benign.

In the back and forth between Marx and Sloan, Sloan revealed she lived with three brain tumors, seizures, vertigo, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Yet, her husband has been supportive through it all.

Baio elaborated on his wife's microvascular ischemic disease, noting that while they were unsure whether her tumors originated from a jet-ski accident in 1992, she needed to live an anxiety-free, depression-free, and stress-free life to curb its effects.

Scott Cares about His Girls — There Was “A Good Sign” from His Daughter’s Birthday

Despite commitment being an anathema for Baio in his heydays, the actor settled incredibly well into married life and fatherhood. His transition from a confirmed bachelor to a family man was seamless, and it's all thanks to the women in his life he cares a lot about.

He confessed that while his life had been good as a bachelor, fatherhood made it even better. He thought his life would be over, but his daughter gave him a new lease on life, which he cherishes.

His view on life also changed a lot, and he enjoys cleaning after his daughter and always picks up her shoes because he has always been a neat freak. He also cooks for his family and disclosed that he makes a mean pasta with meatballs dish. Asked when he learned to cook, he said he was a bachelor for a long time and had to fend for himself.

He is also a wonderful dad in many other aspects. In 2017, he proved it by posting a photo of himself being a good sport by allowing his daughter — ten at the time — to put makeup on his face. Even though he seems like the perfect dad, he has his worries. Asked what the most challenging thing about fatherhood was, he said:

"Teaching her the right thing every day. Sometimes as I go to bed, I'll start to cry because I reacted towards her in a way that maybe I shouldn't have."

Then in 2020, the actor posted a throwback photo of him and his daughter taking a walk. The "Face Value" actor wore blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and sandals, while his daughter wore a blue T-shirt and shorts paired with blue sandals. She was also carrying a small handbag that hung from her shoulder.

The cute dad-daughter duo seemed relaxed as they walked hand-in-hand. Spending such special moments with his daughter has always been the highlight of Baio's days, and in his words:

"I can't imagine not seeing my daughter every day. The only word I have to describe her is delicious."

And when the two are not doing makeup tutorials or taking walks, the actor is busy teaching his daughter how to play golf. In January 2020, Baio posted a series of photos of his daughter swinging the golf club.

Baio disclosed that Bailey had been playing since she was three and a half years and after thousands of hours of practice, she now finally played up to 54-hole tournaments.

The proud dad hopes his daughter achieves a lot in life and foresees a bright future ahead of her. However, he is determined to discourage her from pursuing a career in show business like himself.

Even as he strives to give his family a happy life, the actor still remembers his departed daughter. However, he feels her spirit is always with them.

For instance, during Bailey's birthday in 2022, the family noticed a shadow halo around her that her parents believe is a "good sign" that their daughter was present.

Fans seemed to agree with Baio and Sloan's observation. One @barrowfluffy wished Bailey an excellent birthday, complimented her on her long and gorgeous hair, and concurred that her twin's spirit was always with her.

@MyBrokerDarin thought it was a fantastic phenomenon and a good sign that her sister was with her on her birthday, while @graca5683 said she also saw the white light surrounding Bailey, and the realization of what that meant gave her chills.

@JulieMilnerEsq was also moved by the photo and wished Bailey and her guardian angel a wonderful birthday. @bolradio1111, however, thought the light surrounding Bailey was her body energy, while Twitter user @knitter71 wrote:

"Happy Birthday, Bailey! Love that her twin is right there with her."

@nanalakelover tweeted that she had gotten goosebumps upon seeing the photo of Bailey with her twin's spirit surrounding her. "Like her twin is right behind her," she continued before complimenting their choice of cake and wishing Bailey a happy birthday.
