Chris Webber's Wife Erika Dates Has Been His Life Partner since 2009
In 2021, the first-round pick of the NBA's 1993 draft finally got to join the game's legends by being inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame. Professionally, Chris Webber was exceptional, and his marriage to his wife, Erika Dates, is on a similar trajectory.
There is little information available about the marriage of the former basketball star as he and his wife seem to prefer to keep their lives away from the media. The couple even decided to take time away from the spotlight and try life on their farm.
Although it seems fantastic, their marriage has faced some challenges, including failure to have children for many years after their wedding. However, the prayerful couple was eventually blessed with two children at once when the former basketball star was already in his mid-40s.
Chris Treasures the Farm Life with His Family after Taking a Career Break
Webber has lived much of his life in stardom. Beginning in high school, he displayed an excellent talent for basketball and showed promise of a great future. He continued to do so in college as part of the University of Michigan's famous Fab Five, which took college basketball by storm.
That was followed by a 15-year career playing at the highest level of basketball in the NBA after being selected as the first pick in the 1993 NBA draft. The power forward played for various teams, including current star Steph Curry's Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings, where Vince Carter and Ime Udoka played.
After three decades in the limelight, Webber decided to step back and enjoy a more private life away from all the media attention. He relocated to a farm with his wife, Erika, and their kids. The former star appeared to be enjoying his timeout, saying:
“For me, off-the-court or out of the business room, I’m just trying to love my kids, my family, my wife, my home. And so just really trying to relax. Believe it or not — that’s one of the reasons I really didn’t want to commentate anymore. Since the age of 18, I’ve been on multiple flights per week and this was the first year I haven’t had to do that.”
Chris and Erika Have Two Kids after Years of Trying
On June 4, 2017, Webber and Dates announced they had added to their family. The couple welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, and were in a celebratory and relieved mood as they also revealed they had been trying to have children for the best part of the previous decade.
Born on March 1, 1973, and married in 2009, this was the first Webber had managed to hold his children in his arms, and for him, it was a huge blessing. Dates also shared wrote of their struggles on Instagram alongside a fantastic family picture, saying:
"Grateful... 7 years waiting for our family to grow, and we were double blessed. Never underestimate the power of prayer, even when 'they' tell you it's impossible... All in his time. Thank you to all of our family and friends and even strangers who shared our journey and kept us encouraged."
Erika Often Shares Moments with Her Husband
Although Webber recently marked his 50th birthday, he can be mistaken for a younger age. The former NBA star seems to enjoy his life after the game, looking fit and happy with his wife and kids.
Dates frequently share photos of herself and her husband, letting fans see what their hero has been up to. In April 2020, she shared pictures of Webber enjoying time with his kids under clear skies and beside a large pond. The family was flying kites and having some ice pops.
Later that year, Dates shared a picture of Webber getting his hands dirty in the field. Holding what looked like a large sweet potato, she captioned the photo, "This should be on the cover of 'Guys Who Garden'."
In September 2021, the couple was photographed together celebrating Chris' induction into the Naismith Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Michael Jordan and Karl Malone. On September 29, 2021, the couple was in Detroit, Michigan, wearing all black and looking like teenagers in love.
