Cindy Crawford's Throwback to When She Became the First to Wear Versace to the Oscars
Cindy Crawford cemented herself in Oscars fashion history after she stunned in a red number from Versace in 1991. The legendary model took to Instagram to share how the iconic look came about, which was not the only history-making dress she wore as her then-husband's date.
In honor of the 93rd annual Academy Awards, Crawford took to Instagram to share one of her most iconic looks— her Versace red dress. In the caption of the Instagram post, Crawford revealed that she had worn a similar gown during a Versace fashion show.
When she learned she would be attending the Oscars, she asked the late high-end fashion designer Gianni Versace if he could make the dress for her in red. "He said yes, and the rest is fashion history," Crawford captioned the post.
While her then-husband kept it simple and classic in a black tuxedo and bowtie, Crawford was the highlight of the night in the iconic number with a side split, criss-cross back, and a plunging V-neck.
Two years later, Crawford and Gere walked the Oscars carpet again; however, the second time around, the supermodel opted for a white bandage dress and a half up, half down hairstyle. She completed the look with silver jewellery, which included a beautiful necklace.
Cindy Crawford Was Married to Richard Gere at the Time
Crawford met her first husband at a barbecue at photographer Herb Ritts' home in 1988 when she was 22 and Gere was 39. "I was still 22, and at 22 — as a young woman — I was kind of still figuring out who I was and what I wanted to be," she said.

A few years later, they were husband and wife, and while their marriage did not last, Crawford and Gere enjoyed their time as the "It" couple of the 1990s.
While the press had a field day creating rumors about why the couple went their separate ways— including claims that both Gere and Crawford were gay— she revealed that there was a host of reasons why their marriage did not last. Crawford shared:
"I think I was more willing at 22 to be, like, 'OK, I'll follow,' but then you start going, 'Well, I don't want to just follow — I want to lead sometimes, and I want to walk side-by-side sometimes.'"
Cindy Is Now a Happily Married Woman
Cindy Crawford met her second husband, Rande Gerber, while still married to Gere. They began their relationship as friends before becoming something more when her marriage to Gere ended.
The couple has since celebrated over twenty years of marriage and welcomed two children, their son Presley in 1999 and their daughter Kaia in 2001, who followed in her mother's footsteps.
