'I Was Scared No One Would Ever Love Me,' Alexandra Shipp Said in Her Coming-Out Post
When Alexandra opened up about her sexual orientation in 2021, she admitted that her journey to self-acceptance wasn't easy. In a long candid post, the actress and singer disclosed she struggled with her sexuality and feared that if she came out, she would encounter a lot of criticism.
Based on reports, Alexandra and her "X-Men" co-star McAvoy were rumored to be dating after the actor split with Duff.
"I was scared no one would ever love me," she wrote. While that was a bold move the actress took, she was worried her decision would affect her career and that she would not get work.
Alexandra also revealed that even though she came out at 28, she admittedly was in denial for a long time and struggled with her sexuality and feminity.
In her post, which had several multicolored hearts and rainbow emojis, Alexandra explained how she was exhausted from being constantly scared about people's opinions of how she should live.
After she took the bold move, Alexandra said she felt incredible living her truth and did not regret her decision. The actress also noted that she no longer felt scared of coming out and was grateful for the love people showed her, and took pride in who she was. She wrote:
"I'm not scared anymore. I have #pride in who I am and what I'm doing on this planet. I am myself, and I love LOVE."
A few days after Alexandra announced she was a member of the queer community, she appeared in Hayley Kiyoko's music video titled "Chance." The music video tells the romantic story of Kiyoko and Alexandra's characters falling in love.
The song, which is at 6.3 million views on youtube as of this writing, received many positive comments from fans, with many impressed with their performance. One fan said she appreciated the diversity portrayed in the video.
Another fan suggested that the lesbian representation displayed in the video is what should be shown in the media. Alexandra also took to her Instagram, shared snippets of the song, and captioned: "Take a chance," before ending the post with a rainbow emoji.

Is Alexandra Shipp Dating Anyone?
Before Alexandra went public about her sexuality, she had been romantically linked to television and stage actor David Anders and Scottish actor James McAvoy who was previously married to Ann-Marie Duff. Based on reports, Alexandra and her "X-Men" costar McAvoy were rumored to be dating after the actor split with Duff.
It's unclear when Alexandra Shipp's relationship with Anders began, but in 2013, the actor shared a romantic photo of him and Alexandra on his Twitter page and captioned: "Young love? Yup."
Even though Alexandra admitted to being a member of the LGBTQ community, she has kept her love life private. It's unclear if she is single or in a relationship.
