Uchis is a singer whose brand of music encompasses R&B, Hip-Hop, and Urbano. She rose to prominence in 2015 after the release of her EP "Por Vida."

Uchis released her debut album "Isolation," in 2018, to critical acclaim. During that period, she had been nominated for a Grammy Award following her feature appearance in Caesar's "Get You" and Juanes' "EI Ratico."

Uchis received more recognition for her work when she collaborated with artist Kaytranada in "10%," which ultimately won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.

Again, the songwriter was nominated for another Grammy Award for her Spanish-language second album "Sin Miedo" in 2020. She released her third album, "Red Moon in Venus," in 2023.

Kali Uchis Had Problems With Her Parents in Her Teens

Kali Uchis was born in Alexandria, Virginia, as Karly-Marina Loazia on July 17, 1994. She was a rebellious teenager who skipped classes in school to work on her music while dabbling in making experimental films.

Growing up, Uchis' parents were strict. At age 17, they threw her out of the family home after she repeatedly broke her curfew.

The future music star became homeless (just like actor Tyler Perry once was) and had to live in her car for months while staying with friends whenever possible. The Colombian-American once revealed that she worked at the grocery store in order to make ends meet.

Who Are Kali Uchis' Parents?

Kali Uchis' parents' names are still unknown, but she once disclosed in an April 2022 Instagram post that she comes from a family of immigrants and that her mom and dad are Colombian. Fellow singer Camila Cabello's parents are also immigrants.

When she was a child, Uchis' family moved back to Colombia, where they lived in a small town near the city of Pereira. She said they stayed in a house full of birds.

Uchis and her loved ones once again relocated to Virginia. Being an immigrant, she even has her father's passport signature tattooed on her arm.

Moreover, during her last year of high school in 2012, music heavyweights recognized her talent after she released her mixtape.

The "Moonlight" singer has since built a successful music career, primarily influenced by a variety of music tunes she used to listen to growing up, including soul and Latin pop music.

Uchis' approach to music was also inspired by her father's job. In 2018, she revealed, "My dad managed apartment complexes," adding that occupants there used to leave behind their old music. He would then bring her small boxes full of CDs at times.

Kali Uchis Has Four Siblings

Kali Uchis has four siblings and is the youngest of three brothers and one sister. On her father's side, the "telepatia" hitmaker is relatively close to her one brother – whose mother is Puerto Rican. He resides in Miami and is a skateboarder.

However, with regard to her siblings on her mother's side, Uchis is not that close to them but still adores them. Still, she keeps in touch with one brother of hers who is based in Japan. With her sister, who lives in Italy, the award-winning singer once revealed she was no longer on speaking terms.

Uchis admitted to missing her big sister, who grew up in foster care, and explained it was hard to connect with her since they grew up in different households. When she arrived in the world, her sibling was fifteen years old, but they bonded when she was younger.

Uchis' sister used to visit her and take her along to her boyfriend's house. But the two had a falling-out over typical sibling fights and have never mended fences since.

The Hollywood star did admit to being "the annoying little sister" who used to tell on her protective brothers. They, in turn, always chased her away whenever she offered to play with them.
