Meg Ryan Received Backlash for Looking Unrecognizable in Last Sighting

In early May, Ryan attended a screening of Michael J. Fox's documentary, marking a rare public outing. Yet, the focus shifted from her appearance to unsolicited remarks about her looks.

One remark read, "I'd never know this is Meg Ryan if they hadn't said who's in the photo with Michael J. Fox, plastic surgery has ruined her looks, she look (sic) hideous."

Another user wrote, "What happened with Meg's face? Thought that was Mickey Rourke for a second," while another poster noted, "We'll never see that iconic face again, it's gone."

The "Ithaca" director had previously addressed criticism about her aging and said:

"I don't pay a lot of attention frankly. There's a lot of hatred in the world today, it's easy to judge. Imagine being a hater, how stupid!"

Vassi Chamberlain, the features director for Porter Magazine, believed the criticism about Ryan's changing appearance likely hurt the actress.

Ryan left her star-studded career to pursue a quieter, happier life. She shared, "I wasn't as curious about acting as I was about other things that life can give you. I want to live more." Raising her son, now actor Jack Quaid, subsequently became her utmost priority.

Project offers rarely came to her in her later years but she said she didn't want to do them.

Now, Ryan is set to re-enter the industry, directing and starring in the forthcoming romantic comedy "What Happens Later" alongside David Duchovny.
