Like her son, Jamie Demons-King also faced challenges in her youth. At 14, she became pregnant with YNW Melly and navigated through her teens raising a child. It was undoubtedly no easy feat, as she had to be responsible for herself and another human being. However, she had her mother's guidance even though they were poor. Demons-King recalled:

"[My mother] was trying to raise me, and then I had a baby. We were trying to raise that baby, and then I started working at Dunkin' Donuts. I was terrified."

Growing up, Melly would sit outside his home listening to one Chris Brown CD while Demons-King struggled to make ends meet. They lived in Gifford, an area that could break or make you, and she worked hard to have a better tomorrow because everyone was trying to make it out of the hood.

Jamie Demons-King works as a nurse in the ICU, helping save lives every day. According to the singer's mom, she finds solace within the hospital walls, where her thoughts are momentarily diverted from constant concerns for her son to her work.

Still, at home, she fears for his safety, worries about his overall welfare, and contemplates his professional advancement. Nevertheless, within the confines of her workplace, a sense of normalcy prevails, as her colleagues have little knowledge of her personal life beyond her profession. "I separate the two," she said.

Although she leads a private life, Demons-King sometimes updates her social media with personal posts. She also shares photos of her son alongside touching words.

YNW Melly's Mom Supported Him While He Was in Prison

As YNW Melly's name gained recognition in the music industry, it was marred by a legal battle that tarnished his reputation. In February 2019, the rising star went to jail for the murder of Christopher Thomas Jr. and Anthony Williams.

Despite her son's case, Jamie Demons-King gave her unwavering support to her son. In 2022, she was questioned over her alleged witness tampering.

According to Demons-King, the Broward County State Attorney's Office had a sudden search warrant for her and forcibly got her phone. The search warrant reportedly noted that her phone was an accessory to a crime and had evidence to prove a felony.

Since being jailed, YNW Melly's mom grew concerned over his welfare behind bars. She claimed she feared for his son's life and demanded immediate action, such as an investigation.

In 2022, the "Mama Cry" singer revealed two prison guards threatened to physically hurt him and take him away from other inmates. Melly also claimed they revoked his phone privileges. She wanted to talk to her son for Christmas that year, which is also Demons-King's birthday, but it wasn't allowed.

Instead, she looked for his window in jail and stood by the street where he could see her. She brought "Merry Christmas" signages for her son as a means of communication. Documenting the moment on Instagram, she said, "I will always be here to make your darkest nights bright."

In an interview, she also revealed that she is open to therapy and has sought that option. Melly is one of several rappers who already tasted prison life. Another young talent who was incarcerated is 6ix9ine. The rapper also previously made headlines for allegedly being an absent father to his daughter.
