Ian McShane's Wife: The Actor Found Happiness with Gwen Humble after Two Failed Marriages

Renowned veteran actor Ian McShane's love life has been eventful over the years. He has been married three times and is a proud father and grandfather.

In addition, he had a toxic affair that lasted years and was filled with substance abuse. After it all ended, he swore never to marry again until he met his current wife.

McShane is also a father of two. He has a daughter named Kate and a son named Morgan. On top of dysfunctional romantic relationships, he did not have a good relationship with his brood when they were growing up.

In a June 2017 interview with The Times, he revealed what he once said to his daughter: "I rebuke myself for being such an appalling dad."

The Hollywood star said he wished he had spent more time with his children growing up. But he believes that if he did, then they would not have the best relationship he now has with them.

McShane is also a proud grandparent who has spoken lovingly of his grandkids, who call him GD for Grandad. Seeing that he has made many past mistakes with his offspring, the movie star chooses not to dwell on them.

Ian McShane's First Failed Marriage to Suzan Farmer

Ian McShane is well-known for playing villainous roles on-screen as he has portrayed the roles of mobsters, kings, and thugs. His love life has also been of interest over the years.

In the mid-sixties, McShane's friend introduced him to his future first wife, Suzan Farmer. The couple wed in 1965 and divorced after three years of marriage in 1968.

Farmer was an actress born in Kent, England, on June 16, 1942. She was known for films including "Die, Monster, Die!" (1965) and "Dracula: Prince of Darkness" (1966). The film star sadly died on September 17, 2017.

After her marriage with McShane ended, he married again to Ruth Post, with whom he welcomed his son and daughter, Morgan and Kate. The pair wed in 1970 and divorced in 1976.

Ian McShane's Five-Year Affair That Ended His Second Marriage

While married to his second wife, Ian McShane began a five-year affair with actress Sylvia Kristel. The two met on the set of "The Fifth Musketeer."

He was ten years her senior. In a November 2006 interview, Kristel revealed her parents split when she was only fourteen. Hence her quest to seek a father figure in the older men she chose to date, including McShane.

She recalled meeting McShane for the first time, saying, "He had a Greek nose and big, bright glittery eyes. His smile wasn't as innocent though – it was as If I was his prey and he had wolf's teeth," adding:

"But to many, the devil is beautiful, and my attraction to Ian overwhelmed me."

Kristel and McShane moved in together in Los Angeles after he promised her he would help launch her career. She penned about their affair in her book, detailing drug and alcohol abuse, including physical violence.

McShane had rage and would shout at the Dutch model, telling her, "Look at you! You don't know how to act. You don't know how to walk and speak at the same time. You aren't an actress. All you've got is a beautiful bottom and some luck!"

Their arguments would escalate to physical violence from both sides and afterward, McShane would sweet-talk Kristel. He would show remorse only to turn out and fight her again. "The relationship was "love/hate," said the Netherlands native who died in October 2012.

In 1979, following the end of the affair, Ian McShane met his now current and third wife, actress Gwen Humble.

Humble was born on December 4, 1953, in Los Angeles, California. She is known for films such as "Being There," (1979), "Remington Steel" (1982), and "The American Way" (1986).

She and the "American Gods" alum tied the knot on August 30, 1980, and have been married for 42 years. The couple resides in Venice Beach, California.

When sharing the secret to their long-lasting marriage, McShane stated, "I really like her and I still get a kick out of looking at her." While he has found success in his third marriage, fellow actor Carl Weathers' third marriage failed.
