Does Brandon Flynn Have a Partner? Sam Smith's Ex-boyfriend Was Linked to Several Famous Men
Brandon Flynn is an actor who prefers to keep his private life away from the media. Despite his need for privacy, he was known to have dated music sensation Sam Smith and has been linked to various notable figures from the entertainment industry.
Brandon Flynn is a former child star and is best known for his role in the Netflix series, "13 Reasons Why." He is openly gay and previously dated English singer and songwriter Sam Smith, whose successful music has been inspired by their relationships.
However, in a September 2018 interview, Sam Smith divulged that they had put dating on the back burner because of their hectic schedule, as the music superstar is rarely home because of being constantly on tour yearly.
When the London native talked about their relationship, they revealed they were newly single. Their last and only public relationship then was with the movie star, Flynn.
Although the two parted ways, Smith spoke highly of the actor, and even though they were trying to understand their lessons from the relationship, they expressed that they wanted to keep some details about him private.

Brandon Flynn's Relationship with Sam Smith & Their Breakup
Flynn and Smith reportedly started dating in October 2017. It was shortly before the release of Smith's second record, "The Thrill Of It All." The two were spotted out and about in public and packed up on the PDA before Smith confirmed that he was in a relationship without revealing with who during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
The lovebirds made their relationship Instagram official in December of that year. An insider close to Smith once revealed this about the pair:
"Sam and Brandon had a real whirlwind romance. They really fell for each other."
According to the source, this was Smith's "most significant relationship he has ever had." The singer even invited the "Hellraiser" star to his home country in May 2018, where they went out on dates at Thorpe Park and the theatre to watch "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
That same year, Flynn also introduced his boyfriend to his parents. Sam Smith once gushed about their romance in January of that year, saying:
"I'm in a relationship right now, and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy. I'm actually asking myself if I'm going to be writing some happy love songs soon."
Sadly, after eight months together, Smith and Flynn called it quits in June 2018. The singer described his ex-lover as "wonderful," adding all their previous relationships ended on good terms and were never messy.
A source disclosed that the two have busy careers, so things did not pan out as they had hoped, noting Smith was understandably heartbroken over the split.
Brandon Flynn's Rumored Relationships with Fellow Actors
Flynn was once rumored to be dating Scottish actor Richard Madden. In April 2019, the two were spotted walking in the streets of Los Angeles. Madden was pictured with his arms wrapped around Flynn's neck during their walk, and they were also believed to be living together.
An insider previously revealed Flynn had "introduced lots of his friends to Richard." The pair reportedly bonded over fun nights together as the "Bodyguard" star spent more time in the US because of his thriving career.
He moved after splitting with his actress girlfriend, Ellie Bamber, whom he dated for one year and six months. Since appearing in the British drama series "Bodyguard," Madden has received attention from the media, especially on his love life.
In a May 2019 interview, he stated that his personal life is off-limits after being asked whether he and Flynn were dating:
"I keep my personal life personal. I've never talked about my relationships."
Meanwhile, in November later that year, there were reports that he and Flynn were no longer housemates. The Hollywood stars reportedly had a fallout, and Flynn was said to have asked Versace bosses not to invite his former pal to any of the company's events as he was set to become the face of the new collection in 2020.
In addition to relationship rumors with Madden, Flynn has been linked to his "13 Reasons Why" co-star, Miles Heizer. In April 2017, several photos of them looking cozy emerged online. Judging by their social media uploads, it was apparent that the two actors were spending more time together.
However, it turns out that the stars, who play rivals as Justin Foley and Alex Standstill in "13 Reasons Why," are good friends in real life. Heizer's rep confirmed this: "This is a false report. Miles and Brandon are friends from the show but are not dating."
Flynn's most recent romance speculation was with another actor, Zachary Quinto. This came after the two were spotted heading to a dog park in California in January 2020.
The two men were also seen strolling, holding coffees from Maru Coffee. However, they were said to be both single at the time, and it is also possible that they are only friends.
Quinto had broken up with his partner Miles McMillan the year before following five years of dating, and they ended things on good terms. As for Flynn, he said he said his personal life was strictly private.
Brandon Flynn on Coming Out at 14
Brandon Flynn, a California native, came out as gay as a teenager. He noticed how sensitive he was from age ten and struggled to fit in, especially playing with his peers in the playground.
From there, he realized a significant shift once he participated in a play. He said he later met "a bunch of openly queer people" who helped shape his perspective on many things, including who he was.
Those same individuals were his strong support system, encouraging him to come out at 14. When looking back on the experience, he admitted during a June 2022 interview:
"It was hard. There (are) a lot of moments I remember. A lot of it had pain to it, and a lot of it had beauty to it."
Flynn, whose first screen role was Mike, the intern in the horror show "BrainDead," featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Johnny Ray Gill, Danny Shalhoub, Paige Patterson, and others, said it took him seven years to feel confident in his skin as a gay man.
