Actress Heather Locklear, most famous for portraying Amanda Woodward in the series "Melrose Place," has had a challenging few years. While she found fame on the popular TV show, her personal life went through a considerable amount of obstacles she had to traverse, not always doing so successfully.

After landing her breakout role and leaving her high school sweetheart, Locklear went on to marry the rockstar Tommy Lee in 1986. The two were together for almost a decade, opting for a divorce in 1993. After Lee, Locklear met and married another famous rock musician, Richie Sambora. The two said their vows in 1994.

Although Locklear and Sambora were only together for six years, they share a child — a daughter named Ava Locklear. Nonetheless, Locklear and her rockstar husband went their separate ways in 2007, after the actress was arrested for a DUI in 2006. Naturally, the ordeal was relentlessly covered by the media.

Following her DUI and separation from Richie, Locklear managed to get her act together by going to rehab and getting sober. She also reconnected with her boyfriend from high school, Chris Heisser. With his support and her daughter's encouragement, Locklear kicked her addictive vices to the curb.

Locklear's stint in rehab helped her kick the addictive tendencies she had struggled with for a long time before meeting Heisser.

Ever since Locklear and Heisser got back together, the two have been inseparable. Recently, it became clear just how close the two are. Locklear was spotted sitting on a curb in Los Angeles, waiting for Heisser to pick her up. While waiting on her ride, Locklear looked slightly disheveled, staring into the distance.

She sat with her signature blond curls in a mess and her face looking puffy as she patiently passed the time until her ride showed up. She wore all black, opting for a blouse, loose-fitting pants, and boots. Her big Louis Vuitton handbag stood at her feet as she huddled up on the small row of bricks she was using as a seat.

After a little while, Heisser showed up in his SUV, and Locklear's slightly downcast demeanor suddenly brightened considerably. As Heisser pulled up in his car, Locklear's face lit up, and she strode over to get in. With a huge smile, she opened the car door, hopped in, and the happy couple was off.

Ever since they got back together, Locklear and Heisser have been working on their relationship and building a lasting bond. Although the actress is engaged to Heisser, the two have shared that they are in no hurry to get married, since they know that they adore each other. Locklear noted, "We love each other and support each other."

Although they've been open about how fond they are of each other, their relationship hasn't been without a few fights. In February 2018, the pair had a particularly nasty falling out, which resulted in Locklear getting arrested for domestic violence and battery against a police officer.

Locklear had turned on the police officer who came to her mansion in Thousand Oaks, California, to see what the quarrel was about, which resulted in her arrest. She also verbally and physically assaulted an EMT who responded to a call for help coming from her home. Later, her therapist declared that she was having a breakdown.

While Locklear was facing a mental breakdown, Heisser also had a run-in with the law, having been arrested for a DUI. Nonetheless, the couple stuck together, choosing to support each other through a particularly rough time. By 2019, Locklear was sentenced to 30 days in rehab, and now she and Heisser seem to be living a happy life together.

Even Locklear's daughter Ava approves of her mother's new fiancé. Heisser and Locklear shared that Ava asked them when they were getting married. In response, Locklear said she had too much on her plate to think about a wedding. And to Heisser, she said, "You're my man for the rest of my life, whether we get married or not."

How Support Helped Heather Turn Her Life Around

Locklear's stint in rehab helped her kick the addictive tendencies she had struggled with for a long time before meeting Heisser. The actress already sought medical help back in 2008 after her split from Sambora. At the time, she struggled with depression and anxiety from her separation.

Those close to her realized that she was becoming more unpredictable, and after the medical help didn't resolve her problems, the actress started to drink. Although she apparently didn't have a drinking problem, she began drinking more. Locklear also started to take prescription anxiety and depression medication.

As she settled her divorce from Sambora, she grew increasingly melancholic, turning to more substances to deal with her depression. Eventually, her friends suspected she might be severely depressive and considering suicide. Later, a doctor suggested she be reevaluated to receive medication that suited her better.

Locklear has been in and out of rehab, and she has frequented in-patient facilities, according to People. In 2019, however, those close to her hoped it would be the last time she had to be stuck in a facility. Many were skeptical, saying she "has been to rehab more than 20 times." A source noted:

"Everybody is hopeful that this time will be different, but it's just hard to tell. She's not going into anything new is the problem, though; she's just going back to something she has done before."

But Locklear was determined to make a change. Presumably with Ava on her mind, the actress went into rehab and came out with a positive attitude and new outlook on life. After a few months in rehab, Locklear checked out so she could celebrate Christmas with her family.

Although she initially intended to check herself back in after the holidays, Locklear decided to try outpatient rehab in the comforts of her own home. Ever since then, the actress has stuck to her new lifestyle and even nabbed a role in the film "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story."
