Suzanne Coote is Matt Angel's partner in life and creativity. She was raised in Santa Monica, California, and studied further in New York City. Between their collaborative duo's steady creative output, they became parents to first-time parents in 2022.

Before she started working on her own projects, the Californian got experience working on set with two of Hollywood's sweethearts and an infamously tricky boss.

Suzanne Coote and Matt Angel Share '80% of the Same Brain'

With each project the couple takes on, they become more comfortable working together. "It's like a muscle that will keep growing, Coote explained in 2022:

"I also think it's one of the strong suits that we share like 80% of the same brain."

They began their dynamic collaboration with the indie horror-thriller "The Open House" starring Dylan Minnette, which Netflix picked up. Next, they worked with the steamer on "Hypnotic," about a grief-stricken woman who experiences visions.

"We both suffer from mental illness and are big proponents of awareness and help," Coote said on "Hypnotic." With the help of a couple's therapist, the pair drew up 12 guidelines, which they dubbed the "The Ten Commandments of Co-Directing" as it was catchier.

The creative couple became parents to Everett Gregory in August 2022.

"The most important commandment is, 'Never give up. Never surrender," Angel shared while promoting their film "The Wrath of Becky." "This one is all about fighting for your vision but never throwing your hands up simply to make the other person happy."

Suzanne Coote's Career Has Always Been behind the Scenes

Coote studied film production and music at New York University's The New School between 2009 and 2013. She made it through a five-month internship in 2012 with Harvey Weinstein's production company.

The Santa Monica native first film credit out of college in 2013 was on Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy's buddy comedy "The Heat." That same year she wrote, produced, and directed her debut short, "Welcome Home, Lee."

She has also been a development assistant with Illumination Entertainment in Santa Barbara since December 2013 and a filmmaker with Mad Jimmy Productions since January 2017. Her next collaboration with Angel, "Sick," is in pre-production.

The co-directors married on August 10, 2019. Coote wrote in August 2021, "happy two years of marriage to the greatest gift of my life. Thank you for everything. And I truly mean…everything. I love you baby. [sic]"

The creative couple became parents to Everett Gregory in August 2022. "Words aren't enough, but thank you for the boundless love you give our boy," Angel wrote on his partner's first Mother's Day.

Coote's family is also involved in the entertainment industry. Her mother, Carol Olson Coote, co-produced the couple's first feature film, "The Open House."

The director's sister, Diane Coote, has been the vice president of film and TV production at Bad Robot Productions since June 2020 and has freelanced as a post-production coordinator for LucasFilm.
