Yasmin Finney has spoken candidly about her identity as an openly transgender actress, but another aspect she has only briefly touched on is her love life. Navigating the dating world is admittedly tricky for the young star.

She has yet to be publicly romantically linked with anyone, but in the meantime, she is happy with herself. And although she enjoys romance, she's careful not to rely on a partner for validation.

Yasmin Finney's Boyfriend: The Actress Does Not Think She Will Ever Fall in Love

In a recent interview, Finney opened up about the possibilities in her love life. "I don't think I'm ever going to fall in love. I'm too sure of myself to lessen myself for anyone who isn't 'with me,'" she explained.

She recited a famous quote by Eartha Kitt, where the singer says, "I want to fall in love with myself and… I want someone to share me with me." Finney wanted the same. However, her expectations were low because, as she said, "Men let me down all the time."

Moreover, Finney revealed that most of the men she went out with were intimidated by her. Nonetheless, she was happy living single and loved coming home to her dog, Coco, after a long day's work.

In another interview, speaking about how difficult romantic companionship often was, she revealed, "I've only ever been in one relationship, and I was very lucky." Finney understood how being transgender was "a touchy subject" for some, but she ensures "honesty comes first."

Honesty is critical in relationships for her because not only is she a public figure representing a significant portion of the LGBTQ community, but being a trans woman is integral to her identity — though it is only one part of it.

Yasmin Finney on Her Character Falling in Love in 'Heartstopper'

Finney plays Elle in "Heartstopper," a transgender teen who joins an all-girls school. Elle's love interest is Tao Xu, played by William Gao. The pair strike a friendship that gradually turns into something more, which the actress felt was powerful for trans representation.

Elle and Tao's romance is solidified in the second season, which recently debuted. "What I like about this season is that Elle has been put in this world where it's trans people falling in love, and that is such a powerful thing," she said.

"We've needed it for so long, and we finally get to have this amazing sort of friendship that turns into a blossoming love that's happy; it's natural," she continued. Finney stars alongside Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell, who also portray queer characters.

Yasmin Finney Speaking about Being Transgender: 'There's Just No Change'

Finney's sexual and gender identity is a topic that frequently arises during interviews. In one instance, an interviewer wondered if she ever tired of talking about it. "It's not that," she responded.

"It's just like — I keep talking about it, but I wish there was change, and there's just no change," she continued. Despite acknowledging the privileges her work has afforded her, Finney didn't feel she'd "hit the top" as yet, particularly with transphobia and homophobia still on the rise.
