Sandra Bullock Is ‘Heartbroken’ amid Claims She Should Give Her Oscar Back in Wake of Loss of Bryan Randall, Report Says
- Social media users want Sandra Bullock to return her Oscar following a controversy.
- However, some of her fans believe she earned it, adding the revelations have nothing to do with her.
- Bullock is reportedly "heartbroken" over what has recently occurred.
Sandra Bullock starred in a movie more than a decade ago based on a true story – or so it seemed. Recently there has been controversy surrounding the film's subject, and Bullock has been caught in the middle so much that some fans have defended her.
"The Blind Side" movie was released in 2009 and is based on a book by Michael Lewis titled "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game," released in 2006.
The sports drama film, wherein Bullock plays Leigh Anne Tuohy alongside her on-screen husband, Sean Tuohy (Tim McGraw), follows an African American teenager (Quinton Aaron) who plays football and is adopted by a Caucasian family that helps him overcome an impoverished life.
Bullock and McGraw portrayed the real-life couple, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, who presented themselves as adoptive parents of the former NFL player, Michael Oher. Oher was led to believe that the couple adopted him at age 18.
Little did he know that he signed a conservatorship after Leigh Anne and Sean gave him papers to sign in 2004 before profiting millions from his falsified life story depicted in "The Blind Side."
Oher filed a legal petition to terminate the conservatorship on August 14, 2023, after learning that the Tuohys never legally adopted him. He expressed in a statement:
"I am disheartened by the revelation shared in the lawsuit today. This is a difficult situation for my family and me."
According to the lawsuit, Oher signed where Leigh Anne and Sean told him to put his signature because he "trusted" them. He only discovered in February 2023 that it was not adoption papers and that the family made "$2 million" from the movie, which grossed more than $300 million at the box office.
The couple and their other kids were reportedly paid $225,000 for the film, including 2.5% of the movie's proceeds, which Oher claimed he did not receive.
This revelation has caused an uproar on social media as Bullock won an Academy Award for playing the family matriarch, Leigh Anne, in the film.
Some online users have suggested on the Twitter platform that the film producer return her "Best Actress Oscar back" in the wake of the controversy.
"So, Sandra Bullock should have to give back her Oscar right," one person tweeted. Another wrote, "They need to take away Sandra Bullock's Oscar like they took Reggie Bush's Heisman for this."
Someone else concurred, saying if Bush had to give his award back, Bullock should do the same. While one other user commented, "I demand we revoke Sandra Bullock's Oscar and give it to Meryl Streep."
But some of the movie star's fans have come to her defense. "It is not her fault the real-life people were exploitative scammers and thieves," expressed one individual on Twitter.
"You know Sandra Bullock deserved her Oscar because she acted so well," said another Twitter user. Someone stated Bullock and McGraw merely "ACTED" in the movie and that she earned her Oscar Award, adding, "Calls for it to be revoked are ignorant."
Bullock Is 'Heartbroken' over the Recent Revelation
Following the news of the lawsuit, an insider close to Bullock has revealed how the veteran star has reacted to the controversy surrounding her performance in the film:
"She hates that such a wonderful story, a spectacular movie, and a spectacular time in her life now has been tainted."
The source added now that this has come to light, people might boycott the film and that if they decide to watch it, they will react differently to its initial intent. The insider further stated that a lot of effort was put into the movie and that many believed it was based on a true story, but now all of the hard work has been questioned.
According to the source, Bullock – who recently lost her longtime boyfriend, Bryan Randall, to ALS at age 57 – is upset because a period in her life that was special to her is now being overshadowed with a "completely different perspective."
The "Bird Box" star was recently spotted in public for the first time following the news of her partner Randall's death. She is reportedly putting on a brave face amid her grief and is even more "heartbroken" by the recent scandal of Oher and his family, said a source.
