American musician Steve Harwell recently passed away due to health issues. Barely a week since the announcement of his death, fellow celebrity Kim Kardashian faced backlash for her recent social upload because of his work.
Harwell reportedly died on September 4, 2023, at age 56. The music star's representative, Robert Hayes, revealed he took his last breath at his home in Boise, Idaho.
Hayes further disclosed the Hollywood star's cause of death was acute liver failure. "He was surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully and comfortably," the rep divulged in a statement.
Harwell, who had been in hospice care before he died, was a former frontman of the rock band Smash Mouth. The group was best known for their 1999 hit song, "All Star."
The band formed in 1994, and Harwell retired from it in 2021. However, the group has continued to tour with a new lead vocalist, Zach Goode.
Smash Mouth, a Grammy Award-nominated band, has sold over 10 million albums globally, with No. 1 hit singles and five Top 40 singles. It also has two platinum albums.
Kim Kardashian Faces Backlash for Using Harwell's Lyrics
Only two days after Harwell's passing, Kim Kardashian posted a mirror selfie on her Instagram page showing her in a gold bikini. The reality star captioned her post:
"All that glitters is gold."
Kim quoted lyrics from Smash Mouth's song, "All Star," and fans were not impressed, considering one of the band's former members recently passed.
"The Kardashians" star's Instagram followers flooded the comments section to scold her for her post. "Kim the Smash Mouth guy just died. Take this down," one person commented.
Another user wrote, "Someone dies, and you use their lyrics to post a thirst trap." One social media user asked, "Did you know the guy that sings this song just died?"

"Kim there’s people that are dying – literally," said one individual. Another person stated the same thing, and someone else responded, "Especially the guy that sang these lyrics." Someone else commented, "Your caption proves how shallow you are as a person."
While some fans were unimpressed with Kim's post, others opted not to say much, "Rip Steve Harwell," one penned alongside a broken heart emoji. Another commented, "RIP Steve," while a third said, "RIP Smash Mouth."
Kim's Sister Underwent Emergency Surgery
Amid the Kim controversy, her older sister, Kourtney Kardashian, recently revealed that she underwent an emergency surgery to save her unborn baby.
Kourtney posted a black and white photo showing her holding hands with her husband, Travis Barker, at the hospital on September 6, 2023. "I will be forever grateful to my incredible doctors for saving our baby's life," she wrote in her post.
Kourtney explained Barker left his tour and rushed to be by her side at the hospital to care for her. The mother of three also thanked her mom, Kris Jenner, for the support.
The reality star noted she had easy pregnancies with her three kids, Mason, Penelope, and Rein, whom she shares with Scott Disick, and admitted:
"I wasn't prepared for the fear of rushing into urgent fetal surgery."

The Lemme founder expressed she feared what may occur because of the pregnancy complication and noted she now has much respect for other moms who often experience such ordeals. Kourtney praised God for being able to go home with her unborn baby safely.
Kourtney's spouse, a Blink-182 drummer, also wrote about recent events on Twitter, writing, "God is great," adding he was glad the surgery went well while thanking fans for their support and letting them know the tour would resume soon.
Fans once again blasted Kim for being inconsiderate of her sibling. Someone commented, "She just couldn't let Kourtney have her moment today out of respect."
"Your sister is literally in the hospital," said one follower. Another noted Kourtney had surgery and almost had to give birth, while one person added, "Meanwhile, her sister is taking bikini selfies."
