This Girl Dreamt about Marrying 'Top Gun' Star While Playing with Barbies - At 44 She Raises Their Kid & Divorced Him

It all started as a teenage dream to one day marry Tom Cruise; little did this young girl know that she would become a big Hollywood actress, marry the "Top Gun" star, have his child, and divorce him.

Back in the day, a teenager's room would be filled with posters of their favorite celebrities; for this girl, her walls were filled with her favorite actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise.

Growing up, she did not know that she would also become one the most celebrated actresses, but just like many, she daydreamed about her wedding, and in her imagination, Tom Cruise would be the one she would walk down the aisle with.

Despite those dreams, she was never in a hurry to grow up. She was raised by strict but loving parents and was the youngest of three sisters and her brother. She said she loved being the "baby" that tagged along everywhere.

She would usually tag along to her brother's games, but despite spending so much time watching her athletic siblings, she took a totally different direction in theatre. Her brother said no one in the family showed any interest in acting nor had the talent to grace stages like she did.

Although she had the courage and skill to grab an audience's attention, she grew up very "sheltered and naive," played with Barbie dolls until the fifth grade, and loved her sleepovers with her best friend.

When she looks at some of today's generations, she wishes they would enjoy these blissful and carefree years the same way she did. These years of innocence came in handy when she stepped into the wild lifestyle of Hollywood.

However, the actress expressed that she appreciated her childhood and that she had those fond experiences before she learned to deal with the reality of being an adult and getting to know new parts of her own personality.

Marrying Her Childhood Crush

Becoming a big-time actress landed Katie Holmes with someone she had dreamt of marrying since she was young. The "First Daughter" star got engaged to Cruise six months after they started dating. The actor popped the question in front of the Eiffel Tower.

The same year of their wedding was also the year they welcomed their child together, Suri Cruise, in 2006. Nonetheless, things between the A-list actors did not work out. They finalized their divorce after five years of marriage.

At the time, Cruise's representative released a statement confirming that Holmes had filed for divorce and that the "Top Gun" actor was "deeply saddened" as he asked for privacy to focus on his children.

Holmes was also focused on her daughter's well-being, so after divorcing Cruise, she decided to move to New York and start afresh with her then-six-year-old daughter. Despite the overwhelming media attention after the divorce, she was determined to give her daughter the best life.
