Jodie Foster is a phenomenal actress who has graced the big screens for almost all her life since she started working at the age of three. Jodie was a child model, a child movie star, and a teen idol starring in an array of films.
Now a mom of two, the actress's road to motherhood came through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Charles was born on July 20, 1988, followed by Kit several years later on September 29, 2001.

The movie star used a sperm donor for both of her pregnancies, but when asked if her donor was the same man for her two kids, Jodie refused to answer. Jodie never revealed who the biological father of her two kids was, but she raised Kit, 22, and Charles, 25, with her former partner, Cydney Bernard. The actress is now married to director and actress Alexandra Hedison.

As much as Jodie never revealed the paternity of her kids, Randy Stone, the late Hollywood producer, was rumored to be the biological father of her kids. Reverend Beverly Bates spoke to The Daily Mail in 2013 about the possibility of Randy, her son, being the biological father of Kit and Charles.
Even as her boys grew older, the loving mom didn't let go of her parenting style.

During the interview, it was revealed that according to Randy, Jodie promised to reveal to her kids the identity of their father when they turned 21. The producer's mom also said that her son signed documents to keep the father's identity a secret, and as Jodie's best friend, he honored her wishes never to tell anyone. Randy took this secret to the grave, never breaking the promise he made to the actress.

Randy and Jodie were close. According to sources, the producer tried to convince Jodie to come out as gay before he died in 2007. Jodie eventually announced she was gay years after Randy's death. She came out publicly at age 50 during her speech at the Golden Globes in 2013. Randy had already come out as gay years back after his divorce from Rosyln Kind.

Jodie and Randy's closeness extended to the actress's kids. Beverly said the kids used to call her son "Uncle Randy." When Jodie was away at work, Randy would move in and help Cydney take care of the boys. He was like the boys' father figure as he took them everywhere with him and cared for them as his own.

Beverly strongly believes that Randy gave Jodie the gift of being her sperm donor, but the actress would never reveal that. The producer's mom expressed that she would love to know if Randy is the boys' father. However, Jodie is determined to keep this information private and a secret. She is keen on protecting her kids just the way she raised them out of the limelight.

Jodie's sons got to choose their career paths without their mom pressuring them into a certain direction. She said Charles, who is super-charming and spontaneous, got more interested in acting on his own. The actress is glad he discovered it late.

Jodie's youngest son, Kit, is a hyper-focused scientist who is really shy. The actress is proud that Kit will never be an actor. Because Jodie wanted to keep her career away from her kids, she only began showing them her films when they were a bit older. In 2016, she said Kit had just seen her movie "Silence of the Lambs" at 15, and Charles had just watched "Taxi Driver."

The 60-year-old not only protected her sons from the entertainment industry, but she also dedicated herself to raising them. She admitted that she worked less when the boys were younger so she could be a present parent, go on vacations with her kids, and have fun with them.

The actress also understood the perils of having a parent involved in a child's art form because her mom was a great part of her acting career when she was young. As a result of this experience, Jodie didn't even want her kids to know about her work and celebrity status when they were young. When one of her sons was four, he thought Jodie was a construction worker.

The actress, who found motherhood to be a creative experience, would spend time with her kids putting together Legos and making up songs about peanut butter with them. "I was there for every minute of what they did," she noted.
Even as her boys grew older, the loving mom didn't let go of her parenting style. She constantly worried about them, even when they were asleep. Jodie admitted that parenting has been her biggest challenge, especially learning to let go, as she is always protective and concerned about her sons.

When her kids went away to college, Jodie joked that her house was a lot cleaner and smelled better. Still, the actress was sad because she missed them. She confessed that sometimes she sends them a text requesting to FaceTime just because she wants to talk to them and without anything really important to talk about.

As adults, Kit and Charles have been seen in public with their mom only a few times. The actress has kept them away from her celebrity life just as she did when they were growing up. In August 2021, Jodie was seen with her son Kit on a rare sighting, running errands in the West Village neighborhood of New York City.

Jodie Foster was also seen with Kit and her wife Alexandra in May 2023 on another rare outing in New York City. The actress and her tight-knit family rarely grace the public with these outings.
Jodie was raised in the limelight, having gotten into acting at a very young age. Due to the impact growing up in the public eye had on her, the mom of two made a firm and deliberate choice not to put her kids on stage.

The actress spent her childhood on the road with her mom as they went to see French and German movies. The two would talk about what actors didn't do well in the films and what they did well.
Brandy made Jodie do the things she couldn't do well. Her mom also chose her roles when she was young. Brandy would talk to her daughter a little bit about the movies she'd star in, but mostly, Jodie didn't read the script; she only read her part. The actress later described the relationship she had with her mother as "fraught – wonderful but painful, too."

As a child star, Jodie became her family's breadwinner from age seven. She felt an exaggerated sense of responsibility for her mother's happiness because she was a single mom. Jodie told herself that if her mom went crazy or didn't have money, she would leave her. These ideas in her head pushed her to get straight As and be the best at everything so that her mom wouldn't leave her.
Even as an adult, Jodie worried that her mom would leave her. Brandy was diagnosed with dementia and died aged 90 in 2019.
