"With [a] breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM. She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months. On the day of the heart-wrenching tragedy, Shannon posted a cryptic message on social media, making many people wonder what was going on in her family.
"Y'all we r asking for prayers for our family as we are going through this process we really appreciate y'all for all the thoughts and prayers and we will update y'all whenever we can just know that all of your thoughts and your prayers are very much appreciated during this time [sic]," she wrote in her December 9 Instagram post.

A second person added, "Oh no 😢😢😢 PRAYING FOR YOU ANNA GOD HAS YOU BABY." Yet another wrote, "😢lord, please 🥺🙏 have Anna in your hands and help her and her family In this time that they need you 🙏 [sic]."
Shannon and her eldest daughter were said to have a rocky relationship. In 2014, Cardwell shed light on a distressing past incident, disclosing that she had been molested as a child by Mark Daniel. This happened years before her family gained fame on TLC's reality show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo."
However, the tumultuous mother-daughter relationship changed after Shannon and the whole family learned about Cardwell's terrifying health ordeal.
The then-20-year-old actress shared that the abuse took place when she was eight years old, during the time McDaniel was dating her mother, Shannon. The situation gained public attention when reports surfaced suggesting a renewed romantic involvement between Shannon and McDaniel, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the show by TLC.
Shannon denied the relationship in a Facebook post and reassured her daughter that the allegations were untrue. Cardwell recalled her mom's initial skepticism after McDaniel's arrest, describing Shannon's reaction as disbelief and questioning why she would make such accusations.
Expressing potential hurt if Shannon and McDaniel were indeed together, Cardwell affirmed her commitment to keeping her then-two-year-old daughter away from McDaniel. "I would not let her see Kaitlyn unless Mark is out of the picture or away because I don't want him nowhere near my child," Cardwell said at the time.
Following the incident, Cardwell moved in with her grandmother, Sandra Hale, who also shared her thoughts on the matter. "I took [Anna] to the police station and filed the charges on her behalf because she was a minor," Hale expressed in an exclusive interview in 2014. "I was looking out for her best interests, and I wasn't going to let this go away."
In 2012, Cardwell moved back in with her mother before the premiere of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." At the time, she mentioned, "I've always lived with my grandma. I just moved back here a few months ago."
However, the tumultuous mother-daughter relationship changed after Shannon and the whole family learned about Cardwell's terrifying health ordeal. The mom-of-two was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal cancer in January. Before that, she was hospitalized for back pain, initially thought to be a cyst. Unfortunately, the cancer spread rapidly to her liver, spleen, and lungs by the time of diagnosis.
"There [are] days where I don't know [whether] to scream, get mad, or be happy. As her mom, we've had talks you don't want to have with your child...You're never prepared, but we know what could happen," expressed Shannon at the time.
