Hollywood icon and triple-threat entertainer Debbie Allen celebrated her 74th birthday yesterday. She took to her Instagram to share a video of her dressed in a beautiful matching ensemble, which included a fluffy purple hat.

In the video, an excited Allen, who commemorated her birthday with her mom the day before, warmly greeted her fans. She then spoke about the events for the day, including filming "Grey's Anatomy" and visiting her dance studio afterward.

Two years before her 74th birthday, Allen sat down for a virtual interview with the hosts of "Good Morning America." In the interview, she spoke about her prediabetes diagnosis: "I was diagnosed as being prediabetic. Something I've been looking for all my life, and happily, it hasn't come all this time; it just now started to show up."

During the discussion, Allen also took a moment to highlight the importance of having acute awareness regarding one's health, specifically where Type 2 Diabetes is concerned.

The topic was significant because National Kidney Month was the month after the interview was published. A portion of what Allen had to express on the matter is as follows: "You need to know that Type 2 Diabetes is a big risk factor in having chronic kidney disease."

Allen, who partnered up with the National Kidney Foundation to help people and raise awareness, went on to disclose: "For me, Type 2 Diabetes now is a big part of the conversation, and my whole family has been —for generations— ravaged by diabetes...and there was no platform like this that existed with this kind of information."

The 74-year-old also conveyed that she considers herself someone who believes in being proactive regarding physical health and keeping informed about factors that influence one's health status.
