Matthew McConaughey's 17-Year-Old Son Levi Joins His Father at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Igniting Buzz
Matthew McConaughey’s teenage son stuns on red carpet as pair debut fiery new drama “The Lost Bus” — and fans are all saying the same thing
It was a night of Hollywood glamour, family legacy, and red carpet revelations as Matthew McConaughey, 55, stepped out at the Toronto International Film Festival—but it was his son Levi McConaughey who stole the spotlight.
The Oscar-winning actor attended the world premiere of his harrowing new biographical drama, The Lost Bus, on Friday, September 5, and brought along more than just star power—he brought his own son, who also happens to be his co-star.
Held at the Princess of Wales Theatre, the glittering event marked Levi’s red carpet debut as a film star—and fans were quick to comment on his uncanny resemblance to his famous mother, Camila Alves.
Levi, just 17, made his fashion-forward entrance in a modern twist on old Hollywood tailoring: a crisp white shirt, black vest, wide-leg trousers, and a bold red pocket square that turned heads. A draped fringed scarf added a dash of bohemian flair—a nod to his father’s famously laid-back style.
Beside him, Matthew oozed charm in a double-breasted taupe suit, crisp shirt, and sleek black tie. The father-son duo walked the carpet with Matthew’s wife Camila Alves and his mother Mary Kathlene McCabe, adding a three-generation sparkle to the evening.
But it was Levi’s striking features that sent social media into overdrive.
“He has his mother’s eyes,” one fan gushed. “He looks exactly like his mother,” another echoed. “Looks like his mom but has his dad’s curly hair,” added a third.
Others weren’t as generous to dad: “Looks nothing like his father,” one netizen remarked. “Levi is going to be more handsome than his dad,” another added.
In The Lost Bus, Matthew and Levi portray father-son duo Kevin McKay and Shaun. The film follows a school bus driver and a teacher battling against time and terror to save a group of children trapped aboard a school bus during a devastating inferno.
The gripping survival drama, which also stars America Ferrera, marks Levi’s official acting debut—and it almost didn’t happen.
“He’s introducing himself and I happen to be alongside him and in some of the same scenes of him which is pretty cool,” Matthew told E! News in a red carpet interview.“Three generations. My mother has always been a performer and so she's been in films. I had no idea he was even interested.”
According to Matthew, Levi had to beg four times before his father finally took him seriously.
“He came back four times asking me, ‘Can I read for it?’” the actor recalled. “They got him on camera, read for it and I said ‘Wow, he can hold the frame, hes got the instinct for it.]’”
The final decision was left to director Paul Greengrass, who saw Levi’s audition tape and was instantly convinced.
Even Levi himself was shocked when the call came through.
“I knew it was a good audition and I was like, ‘OK. This is good,’" he said. “But I did not think I was going to get the part.”
Now, with the film set to release in select theaters September 19 and stream on Apple TV+ October 3, fans will finally get to witness Levis transformation from teen to leading man—and the birth of a new McConaughey legacy.
